Our business unit provides support in three major areas: business process services, where we perform the actual function that the process is relate to; business process related software, that helps us manage the various components, the systems associated with the software in the process; and then there is a business process management which is used to help design and track the performance of the specific business process. The business units work supports primarily the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. We support our clients with a work force of over 2600 Serco and Serco subcontractor employees and provide mission critical support services that primarily support Immigration, Visa Processing and Commerce.
Serco is searching for a Linux System administrator. The responsibilities for this position are as follows:
•Support the design, configuration, setup and implementation the Apache web and JBoss application servers that comprise a web portal. Work with the Application team to perform break/fix and small enhancements.
•Must be able to edit and change server configuration files (such as Apache httpd.conf) and start or restart services such as Apache httpd. Experience with Linux or Unix scripting and cron tables for automating system management is required.
•Experience modern versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux is preferred.
•Experience setting up and configuring relational database servers is perfered; any experience with MySQL 4 and beyond is a plus, especially knowledge and experience that relates to clustering MySQL for high availability.
•Experience with the BIND name server is a plus: specifically the candidate should have an understanding a basic BIND configuration and must be able to construct and maintain BIND zone files, and must be able to insure name servers are properly replicating zone data.
•Experience with Linux in a VMWare environment.
•Experience with SSL web traffic load balancers (such as Cisco ACE).
•Understanding of applying FISMA controls in Linux environment
•Experience in automating patching procedures in Linux
Required Skills and Experience:
•Unix/Linux System Administration, Apache, experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Unix/Linux shell scripting and/or Perl, MySQL (or other similar database platform.)
•7 TO 10 Years
•4 Year Degree (or additional experience)
