The Manufacturing, Transportation and Energy (MTE) business unit is the second largest unit within Oliver Wyman. MTE’s diverse set of practices focus on sectors across the world’s industrial complex and include: Automotive, Aviation, Aerospace and Defense, Energy, Manufacturing, and Surface Transportation. There are also several cross-industry “Capability” practices serving the industry verticals: Global Risk and Trading, Lean Transformation, and Corporate Finance and Restructuring. MTE is global, serving clients across the world, but its work is concentrated on the North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
1. Expertise in crafting engaging content across multiple formats
§ Be knowledgeable about issues affecting MTE industry and capability teams; in-depth knowledge of at least one or more of the following is a plus: energy, automotive, transportation, and/or infrastructure. Ideally the applicant’s knowledge will span multiple industries.
§ Be passionate about industry issues and a deep-thinker who can roll up his or her sleeves and work with the MTE partners to translate original insights into articles and op-ed pieces publishable in top business publications and into white papers and reports for clients. Understand the connection points across MTE’s practice areas and help make these connections in IC created, when relevant.
§ Possess excellent writing, editing, and associated project-management abilities; be able to write creative and compelling pieces with strong, rational arguments; must be able to take the lead in developing publishable work from initial draft through the final stages of fact-checking and copy-editing, on deadline.
§ Collaborate with the MTE Marketing team and the MTE partner community to define a strategic agenda of content topics and formats. Redact and reformulate content, as appropriate, for various formats including long and short form articles, research studies, OpEds, blog posts, web content, etc.
§ Partner with other Marketing teammates to effectively bring interesting content alive in innovative and newsworthy ways best leveraging content and connecting into campaigns/programs at the MTE and Corporate level (e.g., Social Media, Website, Traditional Media, Corporate-level events and so on).
2. Strategic Marketing Mindset and Strong Media Relationships
§ Have the ability to provide overall strategic editorial and content development leadership and direction for MTE
§ Have a strong network of thought-leaders, journalists and editors at major industry publications to stay on top of emerging issues
§ Have a strategic mindset to identify opportunities to build awareness and open doors, including: 1) effective placement of articles/op-eds; 2) strong relationships with top-tier media to generate “quotable opportunities”; 3) monitoring and reporting on competitor activity and positioning in content generation and the media
3. Strong Business Management Experience and Capability to Work within a Strategy Consulting Environment
§ Have a general understanding of management consulting and how firms go to market
§ Understand Oliver Wyman’s strategic goals and differentiation; have a mindset towards achieving revenue generation through superior branding efforts
§ Have a passion for ideas and strong intellect that will lead to greater partner involvement resulting from positive collaboration experiences
§ Be comfortable in a fluid or unstructured environment where priorities often shift
§ Have strong analytical and planning skills to assess performance of marketing efforts and understand budget impact
4. People Management
§ Be an outstanding collaborator and motivator who is anti-hierarchical and anti-bureaucratic
§ Have some experience in leading, collaborating, invigorating and enhancing a team of marketing professionals
§ Have ability to manage conflict of competing resources

Location
Ideally, he or she would be based in Dallas, Texas. Other possibilities would be Boston or New York. Should expect periodic domestic and international travel.
Education
MBA or masters degree in journalism (or equivalent) preferred
