Looking for a versatile, capable individual interested in pursuing a journalism career, or perhaps a recent graduate, for an assistant role for McClatchy’s vice president of news and Washington editor. Duties will include research, project work, oversight of internal website, as well as executive assistant responsibilities. The position is based in Washington, in our bureau that oversees capital, national and foreign operations and works closely with 30 McClatchy newspapers around the country.
Reporting to Anders Gyllenhaal, news vice president and Washington editor, the position requires organization skills, web experience, writing skills, project management and ability to learn quickly. Responsibilities include a wide range of activities, from routine office work, handling scheduling and travel, to a role in the news innovation work that is a central focus on this office as well as industry research. Offers an alternative route into the profession and provides opportunities for advancement.
