Overview:

Occupational Summary

Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as
technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service
manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to
communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions
to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.

Essential Job Functions

Must write succinct technical instructions covering maintenance
procedures for aircraft turbofan engines. Requires a good understanding of turbine engine assembly and operation, and of standard shop practices such as NDI, blending, etc. Must be able to visualize engine configurations based on source data such an engineering drawings and 3D models. Excellent keyboard skills and proficiency with MS Office. Ability to edit maintenance instructions for technical accuracy and compliance with specific style and format guidelines. Organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks within a tight deadline. Clear communicator able to work through technical issues with engineers and communicate status to management and customers. Excellent work ethic required.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

4 year college degree in related field preferred. Keyboard skills and desktop publishing software experience a must. Mechanical background, preferably in aviation
preferred.

Desired Skills

Some prior exposure to technical writing in the aviation field. Aircraft engine power
plant license. Prior experience in desktop publishing such as MS Word, Adobe Framemaker, and Arbortext Adept Editor. Familiarity with 3D modeling software such as VisMockUp. Knowledge of Air Transport Association Spec 2200. Knowledge of SGML or XML tagging.
