The responsibilities for this position are two-fold. During the fall semester, under the direction of the Director of Urban Studies and in coordination with the Associate Dean of Residence Life, the Wheaton College (WIC) Residence Coordinator will assume residence life and student life responsibilities for the program, providing services to meet the personal, physical, and spiritual needs of the students. Year-round, the WIC Residence Coordinator will provide facility coordination services. During the spring and summer semesters, this will include coordination and provision of hospitality for the rental and use of the facility.
The Residence Director/Facility Coordinator must live-onsite in the Wheaton in Chicago facility. An apartment will be provided.
Student Life Duties:
During the fall semester, the WIC Residence Director and Facility Coordinator is expected to work 15 hours per week on the following types of residence life activities.
Cultivate an apartment environment that fosters community through caring relationships, accountability, discipleship, and servant attitudes.
Advise students who have concerns, making referrals to other campus resources as appropriate.
Coordinate a weekly "Community Dinner" with students.
Maintain one "evening in" per week.
Meeting monthly with the Associate Dean of Residence Life for information sharing, support, planning, and problem solving.
Meeting twice monthly with the Director of Urban Studies.
Assist the Associate Dean of Residence Life and the Dean of Student Care and Services in establishing, communicating, and enforcing College and Residence Life guidelines and policies.
Coordinate all administrative functions within the apartment facility. This includes discipline, maintenance coordination, and safety/emergency operations.
Accept additional responsibilities as directed by the Director of Urban Studies and the Associate Dean of Residence Life.
Facility Coordination Duties:
Manage Apartment reservations:
Receive and process reservations requests from College departments, student organizations and residential conference guests for overnight accommodations, taking into consideration the date, College policies, and any existing reservations of apartment space.
Collaborate with the Urban Studies Office Coordinator to develop a reservation process. Manage the reservation system.
Provide hospitality to guests visiting the Wheaton in Chicago Facility:
Coordinate apartment preparation prior to guest arrival.
Check-in each guest upon their arrival, and acquaint them with the services available during their stay at the WIC facility.
Provide appropriate information on opportunities in Chicago.
Provide assistance guests may require while staying at the Wheaton in Chicago Facility.
Maintain a flexible schedule to be on call when guests are in residence at the facility, with the willingness to plan vacations around occupancy.
Be available through phone service for guests should an issue arise.
Oversee day-to-day operations of the facility:
Coordinate and schedule all necessary maintenance and services
Coordinate and troubleshoot Internet service through the IT resources at Wheaton College.
Maintain adequate supplies and inventory of complimentary goods for guests.
This position is required to carry a cell phone.
