To abstract professional/ technical charges and ICD-9 codes from clinical information of medical records for billing purposes.

Extracts professional and technical charges from clinical information of medical records for the purpose of patient billing.
Analyzes and evaluates medical records for professional services provided and assigns appropriate ICD-9 disease code and CPT procedure code.
Compiles daily monthly billed revenue statistical reports
Verifies accuracy of keyed charges.
Implement Charge Correction on errors and/or corrections sent back to the department.
Assures completeness of financial and demographic information (i.e.; insurance information) in the medical record.
Reviews daily schedules the day before; checking eligibility, outstanding balances; missing or needed referrals; making the front desk staff and/or the Doctors’ assistants aware.
Follow up all charges denied by insurance; call and/or check insurance website; submit all requested documentation.
Coordinates billing activities with the MFA Business Office to include regular meetings to identify, address and resolve billing related issues.
Implements departmental policies on managing MFA Business Office correspondence (i.e. account action forms, back-outs, information requests).
Facilitates administrative control of the billing process through the coordination of related activities with appropriate department.

High school graduation or an equivalent combination of training and experience is necessary. Coding Certification or equivalent combination of training and experience is necessary. CPC/CPC-A certification is required within one year of employment.
A minimum of six months to one year of coding experience.
