The Global Project Manager is accountable for the global leadership of Research and/or Product Development projects in therapeutic areas (Parasitology, Antimicrobials and Pharmaceutical Specialties in Food and Companion animal) at Bayer Animal Health. GPM position is located in Shawnee Mission, KS within the reporting structure of Global Development. The main job task is to lead multifunctional and multinational Project Teams through the individual phases of the R&D process (research, pre-clinical, clinical development, and regulatory approval process) until launch and life cycle management aiming at maximizing the project value. The GPM works also at the interface to the Global Brand Team and Strategic Marketing, in Global Marketing.
The incumbent is fully accountable elaborating the project development strategy, setting objectives, timelines and allocated project budgets and implementing the operational plans together with his/her project team to develop the drug product on time, within budget and within the frame of the target product profile. The GPM presents development plans and regular status updates to the appropriate decision body at each decision step and is the primary contact for the project. The GPM is responsible for identifying and evaluating hurdles and issues related to the development project, and drives a solution finding process to propose option scenarios to respective decision bodies.
Three processes capture the GPM's main responsibilities, which are related to the critical leadership role in implementation of the development strategy and development plan for a project.
1) Plan, Track & Adjust Project Plan Schedule and Resourcing (staffing & budgeting)
2) Manage Performance of the Global Project Team and its members achieving team and personal objectives for the project
3) Evaluating the value of different development scenarios (regional reach, product range, claim set) and selecting suitable proposals for Senior Management consideration
Qualifications / Experience
The incumbent must possess at least a B.S. or B.A. in one of the basic sciences or preferably holds a degree as veterinarian. He/She should have at least 6-8 years of relevant professional and academic experience with at least 3 years of pharmaceutical/veterinarian industry experience. Firsthand experience in project management and/or some of the key project development related functions (Research incl. Analytical and Technical Disciplines, Clinical Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, Production) is required.
Due to importance of the projects for the company and the complex nature of the job and also the high level of management at which many of these interactions must be made, the role is necessarily suited to an individual who combines broader management and commercial skills and a broad technical understanding.
The incumbent must also possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate both scientific and business information at all levels inside and outside the organization.
