Urology of Indiana is hiring a licensed Radiation Therapist to provide steady PRN treatment support at its Center for Prostate Cancer Centers (located at 89th & Meridian and in Greenwood). POSITION SUMMARY: The Radiation Therapist is an essential member of the Radiation Oncology team who primarily functions in a specialized area of radiation therapy technology as a patient care provider in the Radiation Oncology Center. The Radiation Therapist is responsible for the supervision of all duties relating to the administration of a prescribed course of Radiation Therapy. The Radiation Therapist must be task and detail oriented, work under pressure and be able to understand and carry out complex medical prescriptions. Furthermore, the Radiation Therapist must be able to communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner to personnel, patients, and physicians ensuring quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis and treatment needs. TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES 1. Accurately and efficiently reviews and/or administers daily prescribed Radiation Therapy treatments to patients assigned to the treatment unit at a speed consistent with patient scheduling. 2. Enforces all department policies concerning Radiation Therapy treatment procedures. 3. Instructs staff/ensures proper preparation of room and equipment for patient procedure. 4. Sets appropriate treatment unit parameters. 5. Activates the treatment unit and delivers the prescribed dose of radiation. 6. Maintains visual and/or audible communication with the patient during treatment. 7. Throughout the course of Radiation Therapy, monitors patients for unusual reactions and events, and reports same to Clinical Director and Radiation Oncologist. 8. Develops films, stocks darkroom and maintains processor chemistry (informs appropriate person of the need to reorder darkroom supplies). 9. Keeps immobilization devices (vac-locs, rectal catheters) in a clean and orderly manner and utilize the devices as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. 10. Maintains current knowledge of therapeutic procedures performed in the Radiation Oncology Department. 11. Possesses basic knowledge of Radiation Oncology equipment function to provide for minor repair and troubleshooting for problems; water and gas levels, laser alignment, etc...
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A. Graduate of AMA accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology B. Licensed by the State Department of Health. C. Nationally registered (AART) Radiation Therapist
