Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks is seeking experienced swim coaches to run the Roger Carter Seals Swim Team. Coaches will supervise a team of approximately 100 children and work in direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator. Swim Team Coaches are responsible for planning swim meets and practices, the operation and supervision of the team, maintaining attendance records, maintaining behavioral guidelines, acquiring parent volunteers for every meet, set up and take down of lane lines, and maintaining a safe pool environment. Candidates must have knowledge of and experience coaching, running and operating a swim team and planning swim meets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Essential Job Functions:
* Attends swim league meetings throughout the off-season
* Directly supervises coaching staff and team members
* Develops practice and coaching staff schedules
* Enforces facility policies and procedures
* Assists with the development and operation of diverse aquatic programs for the public
* Serves in various capacities during competitions
* Communicates with Aquatics Coordinator concerning meets and practices

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills (These are pre-employment KASs that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)

Knowledge of--
* Stroke technique, diving, and swimming proficiency
* Swim team and swim meet operations
* Hy-Tek Meet Manager and Team Manager software

Ability to--
* Manage assistant coaches, swimmers and volunteers as well as daily operations of swim team
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
* Oversee the development of all three experience groups
* Communicate effectively, orally and in writing
* Recruit and manage parent volunteers

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess current American Red Cross Certifications in:
* Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR/AED for Lifeguards
* Must be at least 18 years of age
* Howard County Pool Operator's License and Water Safety Instructor preferred

Unusual Demands:
* Subject to call in or to remain on the job for staffing requirements
* Required to work weekends, evenings and holidays
