The City and County of Denver, Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a dedicated Challenge Course Recreation Coordinator .
Denver's Parks and Recreation Department boasts one of the most expansive and diverse park systems in the Rocky Mountain West offering: more than 350 urban parks and parkways, 7 golf courses, one of the largest skate parks in the region, 14,000 acres of mountain parks, the Buffalo Bill Museum and bison herd, and a Ropes Challenge Course. We also provide and manage 27 neighborhood recreation centers with 13 indoor and 16 outdoor pools that offer hundreds of affordable programs throughout the year to our community.
Facilitates, plans, manages and executes high and low ropes course programs for a diverse group of individuals.
Helps market Challenge Course programs by creating and reviewing marketing materials.
Develops risk management goals and priorities.
Interfaces with DPR Risk Management and helps develop industry standards (ACCT, First Aid, etc.).
Tracks and investigates injury, illness and near miss incidents.
Establishes and reviews risk management policies in relation to all Outdoor Recreation Programs.
Recruits and guides the work of instructors and other staff in Outdoor Recreation fields and / or Challenge Course programs.
Oversees staff training programs.
Creates and maintains staff manual, procedures, and policies.
Serves as liaison between programs and the greater community of Parks and Recreation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate
Twenty (20) semester hours of college course work in recreation, sports management, elementary or secondary education, behavior management (psychology, sociology) or a directly related field. (Note: a basic core of education consistent with the fields of study specified must be demonstrable on review of the transcript.)
Three years of work experience at the type and level of Recreation Instructor instructing, monitoring, or managing an organized Challenge Course Recreation Program (to view the Recreation Instructor job specifications please click here ). Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in recreation, sports management, elementary or secondary education, behavior management (psychology, sociology) or a directly related field.
Current Challenge Course Manager (CCM) Certificate.
Wilderness First Responder Certification or higher.
Two years of previous supervisory experience.
Experience working with a diverse population, including: youth, adults, and corporations. Education/Experience Equivalency:
A combination of the appropriate type and level of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements. Licensure and/or Certification:
By assignment, requires a valid driver's license. Requires Colorado "Class R" driver's license by the end of probationary period.
Requires Challenge Course Manager (CCM) Certificate within two years of hire.
Requires Wilderness First Aid Certification or hire.
