Medical Education Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Program Specialist

The Division of International Training and Research (DITR) seeks a Program Specialist to support the programmatic activities of the Medical Education Partnership Initiative (MEPI) at the Fogarty International Center (FIC).

The DITR administers research grants, training grants and fellowship programs at sites in over 100 countries. The MEPI, is a trans-U.S. Government initiative with grants to Sub-Saharan African institutions. The MEPI includes a network including of over 30 regional partners, country health and education ministries, and over 20 U.S. and foreign collaborators.

The Program Specialist will provide analytical and administrative support under the guidance of the MEPI Program Director and the MEPI Program Analyst.

The MEPI Program Specialist would perform such tasks as:
  • Preparing administrative correspondence;
  • Providing program and meeting logistics support;
  • Preparing and distributing meeting materials and minutes;
  • Ensuring follow up of action items;
  • Providing document management support utilizing the team SharePoint Site and Shared drive;
  • Maintaining electronic and/or physical files of FIC grantee information;
  • Performing literature searches and database queries as requested;
  • Drafting summary information and briefing materials about the MEPI;
  • Ensuring current information is provided to for releases, marketing materials, and newsletters;
  • Supporting MEPI Program Team;
  • Potentially travelling to Sub-Saharan Africa (as needed);
  • Drafting trip reports and follow-up items; and
  • Performing other related tasks as needed.
Qualified candidates should have a minimum of bachelor's degree in: biological sciences, public health, medical anthropology, or related disciplines. Knowledge of global health and experience working with federal agencies, or state and local municipalities, is preferred.

The ideal candidate should also possess strong: communications, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills. Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) are required. The ability to multi- task and pay close attention to detail is must. The candidate should also have the ability to travel internationally. This is a contract position.
