Performs manual labor using hand tools in the repair and maintenance of roads including clearing of rights-of-way, ditch cleaning, repairing shoulders, pothole patching, driveway installation, laying sideline/cross line pipe and making base repairs. Trains in the operation and maintenance of a tandem dump truck for hauling materials. Trains in the operation and maintenance of jet vac pipe washer in cleaning driveway, cross line pipe and drainage structures. Trains in the operation of CDL vehicles doing daily inspection and preventive maintenance on all assigned vehicles. Operates and maintains electric/gas powered tools used in various phases of roadway maintenance. Operates a standard dump truck with snowplow attachment and sand spreader. Flags and directs traffic in work zones to protect the workers, the public, and equipment. Assists in emergency operations when crew is in an “On Call” status after hours, weekends, and holidays for all road emergencies including inclement weather, snow and ice, or hazardous road conditions and accidents.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
A 10th grade education; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). (Note): This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License. However, applicants without a Class A Commercial Driver’s License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class A Commercial Driver’s License are available. A Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be attained within six (6 months) of placement in the position.
