The Position SUMMARY:The Manager/Sr. Manager will develop andimplement strategic, results-oriented communications plans to reach media,patients and healthcare providers. S/he will manage communications programs forpipeline and marketed products at Genentech focused on ophthalmology,including Lucentis.The manager will be a media spokespersonfor the company, and will frequently interact with and advise seniormanagement, as well as numerous functions including Commercial, ClinicalDevelopment, Government Affairs, Legal, Regulatory and Investor Relations.
RESPONSIBILITIES: --Develop strategies and implement theoverall external communications plan directed at media, patients, providers andother key audiences for key products. -- Maintain thorough scientific knowledgeof GNE's marketed and pipeline ophthalmology molecules and approach to disease. --Cultivate nuanced understanding of keytopics in clinical trial design, drug development, regulatory decision-makingand public policy, as well as advocate viewpoint(s) on the same. --Effectively manage high-profile productissues and crises.
--Collaborate with Roche's CorporateCommunications and International Communications and Public Policy teams inBasel to ensure aligned global product messaging and approach to keymilestones. --Be a strategic counselor and go-to personfor high-level communications strategy with senior and functional managementand product teams around media, issues management and employee communications. --Effectively manage high-profile productissues and crises. --Manage consulting (PR) agencies workingin support of pipeline and marketed products.
Be accountable for associatedbudgets and resources. --Measure and evaluate the effectiveness ofPublic Affairs programs to position Genentech's products in competitiveenvironments and demonstrate ROI to product functional teams, includingCommercial. Report back impact of programs. Broad communications experience withexpertise in product communications, product access, launch preparation andissues management is required.
Experience in event planning or programmanagement is a plus.
