Structures Engineers use their knowledge of stress analysis to ensure the strength of composite and metallic aircraft structural components meet company and regulatory requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Duties include analysis using closed-form hand techniques and/or finite element methods of composite and metallic components, primary and secondary structures
  • Components will include the wing, fuselage, stabilizer, control surfaces, transparencies, and seats.
  • Strong understanding of the typical composite manufacturing processes
  • Duties will range from rough sizing during the concept phase, detailed analysis supporting drawing release, and production support
  • Writing FAA Compliance Plans, Structural Test Plans & Reports, and correlation of results to analyses
  • Experienced stress engineer duties will include fatigue & damage tolerance analysis, project management, and mentoring of junior engineers
  • Material Review Board experience is important for project transition to production support
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • 10+ years aircraft industry analysis experience
  • Experience with FEA and hand analysis; desire experience in CatiaV5 Analysis Package or Femap/NASTRAN
  • Experience with 14CFR Part 23 or Part 25
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills
REQUIRED INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
  • Capable of working closely with internal groups and external suppliers
  • Strong time-management, listening and communication skills (both oral and written)
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an accredited university
