Responsible for overseeing of all aspects of the affiliate development program, including direct mail, major gifts, foundation and corporate solicitations, fundraising events, planned giving, capital campaigns and Board of Director’s annual fundraising program. Creates an annual fundraising and strategic plan. Manages development volunteers/interns.
Responsible for overseeing all external work of the affiliate, including public policy, clinic advocacy, community networking, legislative initiatives, campus/youth programs and electoral programs. Creates an annual external affairs and strategic plan. Manages public affairs volunteers/interns.
Media and Communications
Responsible for the developing the overall earned and paid media strategies for the affiliate. Creates an annual media and strategic plan. Responsible for all online communications.
Develops and implements an annual plan which specifically identifies target populations, goals, measurable objectives, a time frame and an evaluation plan.
Develops annual department budget in collaboration with CEO.
Prepares monthly reports to evaluate goals, strategies and benchmarks reached to CEO and Board of Directors that highlight affiliate success and goals for the affiliate.
Develops a strong working relationship with PPFA Development, PPOL, Media, and Public Policy as well as FAPPA and other Florida affiliates.
Provides staff orientation on public policy and development
Coordinates and implements major gift program, including research and cultivation of prospects, preparation for a scheduling of solicitations and appropriate follow-up.
Works with CEO and Board members to ensure that appropriate solicitations of major donors and prospects occur.
Facilitate Board’s annual pledge campaign
Prepares and distributes an annual report to CEO, Board of Directors and donors highlighting success and future goals of the affiliate
Collaborates with Board of Directors to expand fundraising base
Serves as primary staff to Board fundraising committees
Provide reports and training to Board members as needed
Develop fundraising programs specific to the affiliate’s strategic plan and goals
Support fundraising events through planning, volunteering, and turning out attendees.
Research, coordinate, write and submit grants that will build the financial health of the affiliate in collaboration with other Senior Management Team
Responsible for handling donations, including cash
Ensures accurate and timely record-keeping, list maintenance and gift acknowledgment through the Donor Perfect system.
Works closely with state (FAPPA), and national (PPFA) public policy offices to identify issues, define public policy positions and formulate programs of action.
Organizes, educates and mobilizes grassroots constituencies around public policy issues and assist in community coalition building.
Represents affiliate with governmental/community agencies to assure effective involvement in issues of reproductive health and rights.
Attend community meetings and events that concern reproductive rights as well as opportunity for recruitment of advocates.
Responsible for educating staff, Board of Directors, advocates and supporters on our reproductive health agenda, Planned Parenthood “messages and national and local campaigns
Develops voter education and GOTV programs.
Develop clinic advocacy programs to engage clients and staff with public policy work.
Attend state and national meetings as budget permits.
Oversee VOX chapters work and be a resource when necessary on area college campuses.
Coordinate the establishment of Vox chapters on college campuses within the service area.
Maintain working relationship with PPFA VOX staff.
Oversees all data management for the Convio and VAN
Develops all online communications for advocates and supporters
Engages and develops relationships with media outlets in the affiliate service area.
Develops press advisory and releases, op-eds and letters to the editor.
Coordinates press conferences.
Keeps informed of reproductive rights issues in local newspapers and other media outlets.
Identifies opportunities for affiliate to respond to important issues in the local press.
Responds to requests for interviews from local media on behalf of the CEO.
Works closely with PPFA Media team.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the CEO.
Education and/or Experience
B.S./B.A. plus 3-5 years in nonprofit organizations, media relations and development. Supervisory experience preferred. Additional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Public speaking, budgeting and skills in project management are a must.
Experience with writing, editing and the design of media materials is essential.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret highly complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Excellent communication, team building, people skills, and strong organizational skills are required.
Commitment to the goals and advocacy work of PPNF is essential.
Ability and willingness to travel. Requires valid FL driver’s license, proof of auto insurance and reliable means of transportation.
