JOB SUMMARY:

Works under the direction and supervision of Recreation Therapist to create, implement, lead and adapt activities to ensure LIFE participants have a positive experience in group and individual activities. Directs recreation activities in the absence of the Recreation Therapist.

Reports to the Recreation Therapist, LIFE Geisinger.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrated the ability to be energetic, creative and have a sense of fun. Demonstrated ability to plan and work collaboratively in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others and have an appreciation for the care of the elderly.

Demonstrated ability to be skilled in establishing and maintaining effective and positive relationships with participants, family caregivers, and other Interdisciplinary Team members.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years experience working in a social or recreational program in long term care setting preferred. Arts, music and craft experience essential.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Performs medium duty work with sporadic heavy lifting, as this is a direct patient care position. Must be able to climb (especially stairs and ramps) and guard/assist patients while climbing stairs/ramps. Other physical abilities that are imperative include balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, talking and

hearing. Must have good depth perception to adequately perform the described.

The physical and mental demands of this position can be high, with varied care needs of participants in the management of frail seniors in a community setting. Frequently required to manage many details within a distracting environment. Must be able to handle crisis situations calmly.
