POSITION: Intern, PBS Food (SUMMER)
DEPARTMENT: PBS Digital
SALARY: $12.00/hour (undergrads and recents grads) and $15.00/hour (graduate students)
TIME COMMITTMENT : 30-40 hours/week, June 1st – August 15th, 2013 (flexible)
Contribute editorial, social media and SEO support to PBS.org Food site
Support the PBS Food team in the updating and maintenance of the PBS.org Food site, including updating and collecting recipes.
Write and post food articles and interviews as needed.
Work with PBS Digital teams to pitch PBS Food sites and special features to news sites, aggregators, community networking sites, and blogs.
Investigate and suggest social applications and practices to enhance the PBS Food site and build awareness and credibility for the project.
Coordinate posting calendar and schedule with Fresh Tastes food bloggers, and work with external sites and bloggers to promote the Fresh Tastes content.
Assist in the optimization of PBS Food for search engines
High fluency in the Web is mandatory;
Experience in the creation or maintenance of Web sites (either by hand or through commonly-available applications or templates) and/or publishing to blogs is preferred; Wordpress experience is preferred.
Personal participation and interest in online communities/user-generated content sites is a requirement (facebook, youtube, flickr, etc);
Interest in and comfort with online video.
No preference. Demonstrated communication skills preferred.

Creative, entrepreneurial personality who can brainstorm new ways of reaching online audiences with PBS content and services;

Interest in PBS programming and food or cooking is preferred

Broad awareness of the public broadcasting system including exposure to television and Web industry professionals and key contributors, issues and programs;
An understanding of how the digital landscape is affecting the wider media industry;

Working knowledge of search engine optimization;
Understanding of the challenges in the management of digital assets.
