The City of Columbia’s Career Awareness Related Experience Program (C.A.R.E.) provides 8 weeks of summer employment to local youth between the ages of 14-18. As a C.A.R.E. trainee, you will work up to 20 hours per week at a local job site and receive an hourly rate of $7.35. You will be visited at least once weekly at your job site by your Job Coach. Additionally, you will receive employment-related training and job skill development through your C.A.R.E. experience.

C.A.R.E. trainees are expected to meet goals related to job readiness and work performance.

A temporary employee position is one created and intended to exist for less than one thousand four hundred fifty (1,450) hours in any calendar year unless extended to one thousand eight hundred (1,800) hours in that year by the City Manager. In no event however, will the hours for a temporary employee exceed one thousand eight hundred (1,800) hours per calendar year. Temporary employees have no seniority, grievance, or appeal privileges. A temporary employee position may be either full or part-time.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be age 14 by January 1, 2013. Willingness to learn and take advantage of additional training opportunities. Reliable transportation to and from the work site.
