: Geisinger Medical Center Hospital WORK SCHEDULE

: Days/Evenings, Shifts range from 6:00 AM - 9:00 PM, Every third weekend and every third holiday WORK TYPE : Full Time

Starting with job offers dated February 1, 2012 and after, Geisinger Health System will no longer hire applicants who use tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars and chewing or smokeless tobacco. Applicants will be screened for nicotine as part of the pre-employment physical process. Nicotine will be part of the urine drug screen. Applicants who test positive for nicotine will not be offered employment. Applicants who test positive may re-apply for jobs with Geisinger in six months.


Prepares food for patients, employees, visitors and special functions.

Maintains a customer service approach at all times when fulfilling responsibilities.

Ensures a professional and appropriate service standard while performing the job.

Follows system wide standards as well as department specific service standards.

Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Medical Center in its efforts to provide quality patient care and customer satisfaction.

Reports to the Production Manager, Kitchen Supervisor, and Lead Cooks.


*Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak, perform basic arithmetic calculations, and follow oral and written instructions.

*Demonstrated knowledge of food service preparation and sanitation principles.

*Must be able to work cooperatively with others and display initiative and good judgment.


*Requires a minimum of two years of equivalent cooking experience involving preparation of entrees, soups and sauces.

*Must possess experience in operating and maintaining cook chill systems, patient cooking, food bank, etc.

*Requires six months on-the-job training to become familiar with the duties of the position.

*Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License required.


*Work is typically performed in a food service setting. Requires ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, carry, and push when performing duties. Requires ability to stay for extended periods of time in refrigerated environments (ex. Food Bank, cook chill, etc.).
