Obtains necessary signatures for permission to treat individuals and release of information to appropriate insurance companies. Enters complete and accurate information beginning the admission process for inpatients and outpatients through interview or from computer file. This is a supplemental position; meaning

Receives, greets and directs patients, visitors and physicians in a positive and conscientious manner.
Escorts patients to their room or medical service as needed, providing proper staff notification at the patient destination.
Answers the telephone quickly and courtesy as needed.
Maintain the reservation check-in and check-out services, for the Medical Center over night accommodations.
Prepare patient information prior to arrival by entering information in the computer i.e. demographic information, pending room number, making an armband and other necessary labels.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Registers patients upon admission and or obtains information prior to discharge.
Obtains required information for admission, verifies accuracy and generates an admission record in a timely fashion.
Obtains Medical Consent for treatment and Patient Acknowledgment Release of Information to appropriate sources.
Understand and explain conditions of admission as appropriate, billing and financial information to the responsible person.
Informs Authorization staff of patients requiring a referral or authorization for their services at SERMC.
Obtains presenting or primary patient signs, symptoms, or physician diagnosis.
Facilitates billing support by obtaining complete insurance information.
Procures room assignments as directed.
Update insurance and patient information as new or changing information is revealed.
Maintains an accuracy rate of 95% or greater when registering after successfully completing 480 hours of work.
Files paperwork in designated areas and routes registration paperwork to specific departments and units.
Receives, greets and directs patients, family members, clients, visitors and physicians in a positive and conscientious manner adhering to our Embrace the Spirit standards and behaviors. Problem-solve, offer and give assistance as needed.

Phones are answered promptly with a friendly voice using a proper greeting.

High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
Must be of majority age to witness the signing of legal documents, 19 years of age for the State of Nebraska.
Six months to one-year previous receptionist/clerical experience required.
Prior health care experience preferred.
Education in medical terminology desirable, with willingness to complete a medical terminology course.
Basic word processing skills required with the ability to type 35 words per minute.
Work requires high degree of independent decision making.
Must be able to prioritize, organize and effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Flexible and able to adapt to frequent program and work process changes.
Take the initiative to stay informed and to maintain knowledge base required for accuracy.
Must be able to work from detailed verbal and written instructions and uses judgment for routine and emergent situations.
Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
