This position will be responsible for guiding the HelioVolt team’s module product designers to optimize HelioVolt’s future products in conjunction with balance of system components including inverters and mounting and racking systems, for residential and commercial rooftop and ground-mounted applications, as well as building integrated systems. This individual will be responsible for working with system designers and installers using HelioVolt’s products to optimize the balance between total systems cost and performance for minimal LCoE. This individual will also be responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of HelioVolt’s PV array test systems around the world. This is a senior level role bridging between internal engineering and external systems users, and requires an engineer experienced in electrical systems, power distribution, inverters, and solar installations.
Key Responsibilities
Generate creative and innovative solutions to advance HelioVolt product portfolio
Expert guidance to designers and installers on how to best combine HelioVolt’s and BOS products
Selection of preferred balance system components from downstream vendors
PV array test systems incorporating both HelioVolt and competitor modules to generate competitive performance, environmental reliability, and energy harvest data
Prepare protocols, data analyses, technical reports, and manuscripts for publications
Work cross-functionally with other teams and departments
Work independently as well as in a team environment
Competencies
Product Systems and Design
Understanding of design principles - Solar system array designs, inverter modules
Familiarity with PV systems design requirements and restrictions for US, Asia and EU markets
Field failure analysis and solution evaluation for production product issues.
Research into BOS materials and component technologies to evaluate development opportunities
Prior experience with specifying, installing, or inspecting photovoltaic installations and strong working knowledge of power electronics design
Preferred Education and Experience
BS Degree or better in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
2-4 years prior experience with photovoltaic system design
Photovoltaic testing and measurement experience (Indoor and outdoor)
Power conditioning electronics design and reliability experience
NABCEP training or certification preferred
