Being one of Ohio's first and largest brick and mortar community schools founded in 1999, Millennium has been fortunate during the past 14 years to maintain an enrollment of 600+ students' to-date. We are a K-8th grade, school-wide Title I school. Our student population consists of 98% African American youth from families with a low to medium social economic status. More than 85% of the 600+ students qualify for free or reduced lunches. This is reflective of the neighborhood in which the school is located in.

The curriculum for Millennium Community School is standards based with an emphasis on college/career readiness. MINIMUM TEACHER POSTION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Related field and/or state education requirements for obtaining Highly Qualified Teacher Certificate required. Masters Degree in Education is a plus.
Must demonstrate the ability to motivate students to learn and be excited about academic success under your leadership
Must demonstrate understanding of the state academic content standards
Must demonstrate the ability make a major contribution towards improving student performance on required state test ultimately resulting in a school rating of “Academic Excellence”

EXPERIENCE
3+ years of Elementary or Middle School Education experience desirable.

TEACHER POSITION DUTIES, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Develops and presents lesson plans by using a variety of techniques, including lectures, projects, exhibits, field trips, audiovisual and library resources, computers, and the internet
  • Monitors, assists, corrects, and grades student results by preparing assignments and tests for in-school preparation and homework; conducting standardized tests in accordance with district policies and state law
  • Maintains order in the classroom by counseling students with behavioral problems; consulting with other professionals where there appears to be evidence of learning disabilities, drug, or alcohol abuse, problems of social adjustment, or child abuse
  • Intercepts deterioration in achievement by counseling students with academic difficulties; drawing on the school system's resources for additional academic assistance
  • Keeps parents informed by maintaining records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation; reporting on all elements of student development at parent-teacher conferences, both regularly scheduled and as-needed
  • Provide student support services by monitoring halls, study periods, and lunchroom; sponsoring student organizations or activities
  • Ensures appropriate set-up and shut-down of classroom on a daily basis
  • Grades student work and maintains grade book
  • Evaluates student progress and provides meaningful feedback and positive reinforcement
  • Encourages classroom participation and positive interaction with other children
  • Conduct conferences with students and parents/responsible adult
  • Clearly defines classroom rules and redirects undesirable behavior to promote positive socialization when necessary
  • Responsible for student academic progress and attendance
  • Communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student’s achievement
  • Alert administrators to any concerns about student performance and progress
  • Recommends student promotion and retention

MINIMUM SCHOOL SECRETARY / OFFICE CLERK REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Docs Suite
  • Strong computer and Internet skills; ability to learn and navigate new software
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible to change
  • Previous experience in a school, corporate, or non-profit office setting is a plus
  • Able to speak about the school with enthusiasm and belief in its mission and philosophy
  • Able to handle interruptions and diversions cheerfully and willing to respond to needs with a positive attitude.
  • Relates in a loving, caring way to students who may be sick, frightened, or upset
  • Maintains the confidentiality of students’ records and information about school families, employees, and other constituents. Has excellent and efficient oral, written, and electronic communication skills and maintains a positive and professional demeanor while conducting school business.
SCHOOL SECRETARY / OFFICE CLERK DUTIES, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Capable of answering and managing heavy phone traffic on a daily basis
  • Welcome visitors and notifying school staff of appointment arrivals
  • Complete daily attendance reports in school’s Student Information System (SIS)
  • Update student/family information as needed in school’s SIS
  • Print and create various data reports using school’s SIS
  • Assist administrators/faculty with various mailing, photocopying, and printing needs
  • Distribute mail to school staff
  • Assist with special events
  • Other tasks as assigned by Office Manager

OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS AT MCS
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required
  • Ability to be flexible in assignment and work hours required
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain desirable
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills required
  • Strong communication skills with regular educators and parents
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation according
  • Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database preferred
  • Must be available to work during the summer months
  • Understands responsibilities as a mandated reporter
  • Engages with current and prospective parents and family members and is responsive to their needs
