THE PRIMAR PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION IS
to perform the full range of warehousing duties with responsibility of handling or overseeing one or more product lines, a segment of a large warehouse, or serve as the senior employee in a smaller warehouse
Responsible for organizing and coordinating an effective receiving operation
Responsible for organizing and coordinating an effective storage operation by providing for the care of supplies in storage (COSIS) applying preservation techniques to protect from deterioration or damage
Maintains records and documents actions
Performs material handling duties, including the use of tools and other equipment, in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures, and complying with established safety rules and regulations

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C, Federal Wage Schedule Positions Trades and Labor Occupations, WG-6900 Warehousing Family, dtd 17 Feb 2004. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is:
1. Organize and coordinate an effective receiving operation for the warehouse.
2. Organize and coordinating an effective storage operation for the warehouse.
3. Issue and ship items for the warehouse.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and material handling techniques; warehousing functions, such as material receiving, storage, issuing, and preservation; and warehouse configurations, storage requirements for particular commodities, and storage documentation requirements.
2. Knowledge of inventory procedures; regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation; and of safety regulations, practices, and procedure.
3. Skill in the use of automated material processing equipment and systems to include computer terminals, optical readers, and scanners.
4. Ability to interpret and apply instructions pertaining to material handling; and to maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
5. Ability to prepare inventory and production reports; and to screen shipping and receiving documents for discrepancies.
6. Ability to safely operate fork lift trucks to handle controls for starting, stopping, backing, lifting, lowering, tilting, and driving fork lift trucks through narrow aisles, up and down ramps, and in and out of trucks; and to safely drive and operate a motor vehicle to manipulating controls for starting, stopping, backing, and driving vehicles in all types of traffic and road conditions and in judging overhead, side clearance, turning radius, and braking distance.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE
Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1. May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
2. Emergency overtime may be required.

An appropriate, valid drivers license is required for the position.
3. As required, may train and/or guide other personnel in performance of material handling duties.
4. Ability to obtain and maintain flight-line/runway crossing authorization.
Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stopping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with weight lifting equipment or with assistance from other workers.
Work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting fork lift trucks. Subject to possible strain caused by vibration of fork lift trucks. Occasionally may be required to make limited emergency repairs on vehicles, such as changing a flat tire.
Work is done inside and outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Employee is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises, falls from ladders, falling material, or injury from equipment. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise areas while working in a mechanized work area, or radiation, toxins, explosives hazards, or chemical fumes while working in a hazardous materials area. May be required to wear protective clothing, such as hard hats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. Drives motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions.
