Nemours is seeking a Nurse Manager for our Patient NavigationTeam to join our team in Delaware.

To keep pace with the changing health care environment and build a healthier future for our children, Nemours has embarked on a multi-phase expansion to create a children's hospital like no other in the region. Upon completion in June 2014, the hospital will include private patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a new expanded Emergency Department.

Primary Function
This position provides leadership and management to the Patient Navigation team, which is composed of clinical and non-clinical staff whose primary purpose is to facilitate medical coordination and scheduling of appointments for patients with complex medical needs. The Nurse Manager has accountability for all departmental resources. Functions as a nurse navigator and primary resource for all members of the patient navigation team. Collaborates with all departments across Nemours to improve access to care by efficient and effective coordination of patient appointments. Monitors patient satisfaction to identify areas of improvement and assures outcomes are understood and accomplished by teams. Evaluates and manages complex scheduling process, provides for conflict resolution at advanced levels, and utilizes time management and efficiency of staff in maximizing productivity and ensuring patient satisfaction. Maintains unit compliance with regulatory and professional standards, identifies staff development and training needs, and serves as a liaison between staff and other areas within the facility at large. Actively participates in and leads continuous improvement activities.

Essential Functions
  • Assumes responsibility for efficient staffing and scheduling of all unit personnel according to statistical call volume reports and customer needs.
  • Functions in nurse navigator role when necessary.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, retention and selection of clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Assures appropriate orientation, education, credentialing and continuing professional development of personnel.
  • Defines roles, responsibilities and functions of staff; conducts performance evaluations.
  • Provides overall supervision of the unit including, but not limited to, staff phone monitoring, reviewing/updating policy and procedures, assessing staff call time ratios, and conducting quality improvement audits.
  • Budgets to control fiscal operations and identifies and explains variances; ultimate responsibility for accurate payroll distribution for unit.
  • Interacts with all divisions, clinical and business units to coordinate care for patients with complex medical needs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with electronic medical record, phone system and Nemours operational software packages, serving as resource to staff.
  • Manages conflict resolution; addresses customer and staff concerns with immediate solutions and follow-up.

  • Licensing/Educational Requirements
    • Current, unrestricted DE and PA Registered Nurse Licenses required; ability to obtain additional state licensing, if necessary.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
    • Care management experience preferred.
    • Strong communication and team-building skills.
    • Leadership experience required.
