Project Geotechnical Engineer
Type of Position:
M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering with minimum 5 years’ experience or more on geotechnical projects. Must be a registered professional engineer familiar with Hawaii. Knowledge of typical geotechnical design software (such as PCSTABL, LPILE, etc) and basic computer skills as it applies to geotechnical engineering is required. Must have strong technical writing and verbal communication skills. Soil classification and standard geotechnical calculations should be second nature at this level.
Candidate will work on geotechnical projects ranging from landslide and rockfall remediation to building, utility, and possibly tunnel construction. Candidate will prepare proposals for a variety of project types and for local, municipal, and federal clients. In addition to office work, position may involve field work including, but not limited to, field investigation, construction observation, and on-site consultation, depending on project needs and staff availability. At this level, applicant shall have demonstrated ability to supervise lower level staff. Candidate is expected to be able to perform project management of small projects, and demonstrate both client interaction skills and negotiation skills. Marketing and proposal writing is a part of this position. Candidate shall be able to work independently. Candidate shall be will to go in the field as necessary. This position reports to the Geotechnical Engineering Department Head. The combined Civil and Geotechnical departments consist of about 20 people. This is a growth area for the company and the area, and additional future staff is anticipated.
