Senior Data Architect - Corporate Functions-INF0004059

The Data Architect is responsible for establishing the long-term strategy and technical solution as well as the short-term scope for a multi-phased business intelligence and data warehouse effort. This effort is focused on full lifecycle management of the following critical data subject areas of GM data which drives our Global Business Services organization:

  • Core human capital management data including job, role, hierarchy and medical information
  • Business Intelligence supporting the strategic needs of the above data
This position is a global role which requires oversight and design / execution of several data repositories

Responsibilities for this role include performing the following duties:

  • Find / generate executive level support for the data initiative
  • Define key business drivers for the data initiative
  • Collaborate with business data owners/stewards to establish and execute data governance processes
  • Deliver a project scope that directly supports the key business drivers
  • Integration of core data with HR and Corp Solutions systems
  • Define and Manage the development and implementation of the overall data warehouse Architect and System Design (e.g., ETL process, ODS, EDW, and Data Marts)
  • Lead, Direct, and Manage the project DBAs in the implementation and performing tuning of the data warehouse
  • Lead, Direct, Manage and Create Several Data Marts to support business analytics, reports, and dashboards
  • Create and perform proof of concepts and pilots as required to validate ideas and designs
  • Direct the discovery process
  • Design and implement data quality processes
  • Design and direct the ETL processes
  • Design and direct the User Interface/Delivery Mechanism and Security for the data warehouse
  • Define meta data standards for the data warehouse
  • Direct the data warehouse meta data capture and access effort
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure/Hosting architects and engineers in the definition of Data Warehouse Storage and Infrastructure solutions


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a related technical discipline such as computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, etc. is required; Master's Degree in a technical discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years cumulative experience with extensive hands-on work in the area of IT Architectures, System Development, Deployment, Integration and Infrastructure across a wide range of business processes.
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical leadership experience leading multiple large scale, complex Data Warehousing/Data Mart architecture projects
  • Has demonstrated implementation of Customer Data Integration/Customer Data Warehouse for Major Retailer
  • Hands-On Mastery of the Following:
  • ORACLE Technologies (DBA certification)
  • DataStage ETL
  • Cognos BI
  • UNIX/Linux

  • Hands-On/Background with the Following:
  • DB2 Technologies (DBA certification)
  • Hyperion / Essbase
  • PeopleSoft (HCM)
  • MS SQLServer
  • MS SQLServer Analytics
  • EMC Storage Devices
