Responsibilities:
Support software engineering efforts for the Customs and Border Protection's Border Enforcement Management Systems program office. Project is currently supported by a large team of software engineers working on both maintenance and new products.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of java and web development experience.
An extensive understanding of AJAX and JavaScript object notation (JSON) is a must as virtually all application interaction with the server is accomplished using these two technologies. While most of the HTML is designed by a team external to the development team, the candidate must be able to edit HTML and cascading style sheets (CSS) in order to effectively render UI components using Dojo. The candidate must understand the concepts of object-oriented/object-based programming, especially within the context of JavaScript for the purpose of understanding and extending the existing UI framework.
The candidate's tasks will largely be focused on user interface development using the Dojo Javascript library. The candidate will be responsible for coding to meet customer-provided specifications within the extensive Dojo-based framework our team has constructed. The candidate will be required to create new Dojo widgets as needed. As such, significant experience with Dojo or JQuery is preferred.
Additionally, the candidate may be required to develop server-side Java (J2EE web container) code to provide services in support of the user interface.
Understanding of high volume transactional systems is also desired; however, the candidate will not generally be involved with data retrieval or persistence.
Qualifications:
Eleven years of progressive experience in the field of IT.
Three years of concentrated, hands-on experience in all aspects of specific IT discipline(s) . U.S. Citizenship Required.
