Senior Software Quality Engineer Responsibilities
Provides day-to-day management and technical leadership of the multiple software assurance efforts for NASA projects including payloads, launch vehicles, and ground support equipment. Maintains overall knowledge of NASA Software Assurance Policy and ensures customer satisfaction by responding to customer requirements encompassing these engineering disciplines. Develops overall operating criteria to ensure implementation of the software quality programs according to project, process, contract requirements, and objectives. Prepare software assurance requirements and evaluated project/vendor product assurance implementation plans, quality assurance plans, standards, and procedures. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of the project Mission Assurance Requirements. Participate in the Software Safety Assessment to identify potential safety critical software items. Review spacecraft preliminary hazard analyses to identify software safety hazards and ensured they were properly handled through the software life-cycle. Monitor software development from requirements through acceptance testing to include walkthroughs, inspections, and metrics; and identified problems and trends. Develop and maintain the project software assurance plan. Generate and maintain a schedule of software assurance activities. Conduct process and product assessments, and maintain assessment result in a software tool. Interface with Safety, Reliability, and IV&V personnel on software assurance activities. Review key contract deliverables/products. Monitor the supplier’s Software Assurance Program to assure compliance to their plan and procedures. Review results/status from the Supplier’s Software Quality audits, corrective actions, and metrics. Perform software process and product assessments. Support milestone reviews, peer reviews, and project reviews, as appropriate. Communicate and ensure resolution of all noncompliance issues and/or risks. Track discrepancy reports, change requests, and action items to include maintenance of a project’s nonconformance database. Performs or directs verification of software requirement allocations, traceability, and testability and perform an audit Requirement Traceability. Interacts with customer representatives concerning the status of assigned tasks. Administers and coordinates tasks for assigned project work activities. Assists in preparing and making customer presentations. Acts as a technical liaison between project system safety engineers and project software engineers. Interfaces with the testing organizations to ensure verification of hazard controls implemented by software. Requires excellent communication skills and understands broad range of systems and risk as it applies to programmatic, technical, and cost concerns. Reviews safety-critical software requirements for inclusion in project technical specifications. Reviews statements of work, contract provisions, and contract modifications based on the mission classification and design for software safety impacts. Assist NASA in their implementation of CMMI Level 3 practices. Responsible for ensuring that the assigned projects comply with NASA policies, standards, and requirements applicable to software safety. Exhibits excellent interpersonal relationship building, and customer interfacing skills leadership skills.

Required Skills
STEP Level 1 training required. CMMI Level Ill trained preferred. WM001 ESD certified preferred.
        Knowledge of the following: ISO 9001, AS9100; Software Engineering Life-Cycles; Software Quality Assurance Auditing; Software Safety; Software Reliability, and IV&V.
        Required Experience
        BS in Engineering or science (e.g., computer science, math, or physics) plus 8 years of related experience. In lieu of degree, 16 years of related experience. MS in Engineering desired.10 or more years of system engineer or software assurance experience; 5 of which include software quality experience.
