The Director, Air Force History and Museums Policies and Programs
provides guidance and oversight in the formulation of strategic plans and policies pertaining to historical matters throughout the Department of the Air Force.
The Air Force History Office ensures key national and Air Force goals, priorities and values guide the planning process and forecasts for technology advances are fully assessed and integrated into strategic plans.
The Director serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary of the Air Force, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force on Air Force history matters to clearly explain and advocate Air Force positions and guidance on a wide range of current and historical topics.
The Air Force History Office reviews and analyzes the historical program to determine overall scope and direction of the research, writing, and publication program and the technical competency required for accomplishment of the program consistent with senior leaderships goals and objectives.
The Director provides broad direction and guidance to the Air Force History Office, the Air Force Historical Research Agency and the Heritage Program including the National Museum of the USAF.
The Director formulates the Air Force historical stance on the planning and execution processes of politically sensitive historical events and critically analyzes historical senior leader strategic decisions and leadership.

MANDATORY TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (TQs)

Applicants must reflect superior technical qualifications demonstrated through leadership and management in the following:
Knowledge and understanding of American history with emphasis on military and aerospace history, history of military technology, American foreign policy and/or related fields.
Strategic policy development, programming and decision-making skills as they relate to history.
Executive communication skills including the ability to write, analyze and synthesize current issues and historical events, develop strategic communication plans and publicly advocate the Air Forces history and museums program.

In addition, DoD requires an Enterprise Perspective.
The individual must possess a broad point of view and an awareness and understanding of individual or organizational responsibilities in relation to DoD or government-wide strategic priorities.
Executives should demonstrate ability to work with internal and external partners to support national security objectives.
This perspective is typically gained through a variety of diverse work experiences.

Regardless of governmental agency or department, a career broadening assignment complementary of this position is highly desirable (Examples:
plans & programs, research, academia, Inspector General, speechwriter, marketing, publishing, etc.).
Mix of experience at the following: MAJCOM, COCOM, Service Component, OSD, Joint Staff, HAF, other Federal agency or equivalent academic/industry experience.
Completion of Senior Developmental Education and/or equivalent executive development such as Leadership in a Democratic Society, Senior Executive Fellows, National Security Management, Leadership Assessment & Feedback Seminar, Executive Business Management, and/or two equivalent-level executive courses from other colleges, universities, or agencies.
An advanced degree in history or related field is highly desirable.
HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Applications will be evaluated against the qualifications requirements.
Failure to meet any one of the Mandatory, Technical or Executive Core Qualifications standards will eliminate a candidate from further consideration.
Candidates will be evaluated for this position by a screening panel composed of a diverse mix of senior executives and/or general officers selected for organizational and/or functional backgrounds relevant to this position.
The panel discusses each application and reaches consensus as to the Best Qualified, Qualified or Not Qualified candidates.
Only the Best Qualified candidates will be interviewed.
The panel will then make a recommendation of those Best Qualified candidates who should be referred to the selecting official, in priority order.
Final selection is contingent upon the Air Force Executive Resources Board, SecAF and OPM approval.
