Sports Media - Help lead the Public Relations function. Manage all public relations efforts, including being an integral part of the development of an overall public relations strategy and subsequent execution of that plan in support of key network initiatives and programming.
Develop and implement PR programs that result in a favorable perception of the company/network with key audiences in traditional and digital media outlets.
Write press releases/messaging surrounding the network’s key properties and events.
Leverage social media vehicles to expand the reach of positive press coverage for the network and its partners.
Assist in handling communications strategies for any issues related to the network, including preparation of proactive and reactive messaging.
Stay current with media trends of competitors and industry
Establish and maintain strong relationships with key print, radio, television and digital media.
Develop and implement proactive pitches to generate positive press coverage for the network overall and its key properties/initiatives
Respond directly to print and broadcast media requests and help coach/advise senior executives with key talking points in preparation of press interviews.
Lead participation in local community events and build relationships in the community to support and advance the brand.
Lead employee communication efforts and spearhead employee volunteer initiatives in key communities.
Serve as company spokesperson if necessary
Reports directly to the VP of Communications
BA in Journalism, Public Relations, Broadcasting, Communication or equivalent.
Seven plus years experience in public relations and/or marketing communications. Cable industry preferred.
Direct experience handling media relations (print, radio and on-camera TV) required.
Excellent written/verbal communications skills; effective on-camera experience and presence is a plus.
Creative thinker who offers innovative ideas, and can juggle multiple issues while executing plans.
Superior interpersonal skills.
Understanding of print and broadcast media (consumer and trade).
Strong relationships with media and community leaders.
Demonstrated record of building and leading successful communications campaigns.
Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
