SUMMARY:

The Education Consultant focuses on accelerating instructional improvement by using SAS Mathematics services. Consulting with district personnel and school faculty, the Education Consultant will present effectively the Mathematics services with engaging and interactive activities to meet identified needs and also implement research-based leadership and instructional strategies.

The Education Consultant is the onsite representative of Pearson School Achievement Services helping to initiate lasting change in districts and schools by delivering the Mathematics professional development, providing individual and group support for district personnel and school faculty to incorporate effective strategies into classroom practice.

The consultant must be able to provide at least 4 days per month .

SCOPE AND IMPACT OF JOB
  • Delivers content-rich face-to-face and online professional development
  • With use of facilitator guides, plans and paces professional development for assigned contracts
  • Serves as a consultant, providing leadership and professional recommendations on the instructional programs for specific mathematics content, resources, and professional development actions
  • Assists teachers in developing lesson plans for use in their own classroom around specific mathematics
  • Coaches participants in revision process based on observation and debriefing session
  • Coaches and models quality mathematics lessons for teachers in a classroom setting, facilitation reflection, and action steps
  • Maintains transparent communication with all stakeholders
  • Completes all necessary follow-up documentation from onsite delivery of service
  • Facilitates online courses, when appropriate
  • Actively participate in face-to-face and online internal training as needed
  • Mentors fellow consultants to improve the quality of service
Responsibilities:

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (35%)
  • Delivers content-rich face-to-face and online professional development
  • With use of facilitator guides, plans and paces professional development for assigned contracts
  • Serves as a consultant, providing leadership professional recommendations on mathematics specific content, resources, and professional development actions
  • Facilitates online courses, when appropriate
COACHING AND MODELING (35%)
  • Assists teachers in developing lesson plans for use in their own classroom
  • Coaches participants in revision process based on observation and debriefing session
  • Coaches and models quality mathematics lessons for teachers in a classroom setting, facilitation reflection and action steps
ADMINISTRATIVE AND COMMUNICATION TASKS (25%)
  • Maintains transparent communication with all stakeholders
  • Completes all necessary follow-up documentation from onsite delivery of service
COLLABORATIVE TEAM PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT (5%)
  • Actively participate in face-to-face and online Faculty Training as needed
  • Mentors fellow consultants to improve the quality of service
Qualifications:

Experience with Secondary Pearson programs including CMP2, Digits, Prentice Hall Mathematics and CME- Please highlight this experience within your resume
  • Strong understanding of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
  • Masters degree in Mathematics Education or related field required
  • Minimum of five years in middle, and/or high school mathematics classroom teaching/expertise
  • Minimum of three years experience with facilitating adult learning in K-12 settings in Mathematics, e.g. leading professional development
  • Strong conceptual knowledge of mathematics
  • Deep understanding of mathematics pedagogical content knowledge
  • Effective and engaging learning facilitation abilities and strong interpersonal skills
  • High comfort level with technology and ability to perform basic troubleshooting
  • Experience facilitating online courses preferred; openness to becoming skilled in online facilitation required
  • Knowledge of current literature and research on distributed instructional leadership and practical application preferred
  • 100% national (or regional) travel required

  • Attend to detail while maintaining the purpose and the goal of the implementation.
  • Work remotely with little on-site and/or daily supervision
