Responsibilities:
Technical Architects are vital enablers to the Kit digital business plan. They understand our market offering and our strategy and they act in ways that help translate the strategy into reality by motivating and rallying developers around our best interests, or identifying capability gaps and helping to address those. They are very interested in improving the way architecture and delivery is done. They are commercially and organizationally savvy and not naïve about how business and clients are won, kept, and made profitable.
Principal responsibilities are hand-on architecting and developing complex Java enterprise applications and leading the technical team(s) to achieve successful delivery (on budget, on date, on spec)
Act as a principal and key relationship owner with a significant client or partner and help win Kit digital significant ($1,000,000+) new business
When not active on project delivery, help to materially improve Kit digital’s software development competence by initiating and managing programs of change e.g. best practice around a subject or drive an R&D initiative such as helping Kit digital skill-up in an emerging technology or product-set
Identifying emerging trends or technologies that could impact us in the future
Advise Kit digital technical teams on the means and methods to deliver world class software applications
Recommend effective solutions to highly complicated business requirements and technical issues
Make sound key decisions on technical projects related to software applications & architecture
Act as THE key member of project delivery team and a “go-to” technical resource for Client Directors, Technical Project Managers and clients
Creating the architecture and design of the systems and justification of the solution to clients and/or 3rd parties
Communication of architecture and design to the team and supporting them in implementing it
Leading, mentoring and encouraging (and where necessary, enforcing) awareness and respect for software design and software engineering disciplines
Troubleshooting - fixing really difficult problems when they crop up in a client‟’ environment or system, coordinating rapid, expert on-the-ground technical response
Taking a senior client management approach, possibly solo though more likely in conjunction with others e.g. project manager or client director
Diagnosing complex technical environments by exuding technical credibility and quickly diagnosing problems and identifying solutions
Requirements:
10+ years of overall development/architecture experience with at least 5 years as a TA and/or in a hands-on role (15+ years for a Senior Technical Architect)
Experience in designing and implementing multi-tier, highly concurrent and distributed internet-facing web applications
Experience with internet-scale HTTP caching solutions
Experience with complex event-driven architectures
Experience of integrating legacy applications and systems
Experience developing complex, high availability enterprise software in Java/J2EE
Strong expertise with Web Services
Strong experience with a RESTful architecture
Strong core Java knowledge with prior working experience with Spring, AOP, and Hibernate.
Nice to Have:
Strong knowledge and experience with Websphere or Weblogic and JBOSS
Knowledge of MSFT and mobile technologies – i.e. working on a range of different platforms (.NET, Android, I-Phone)
Experience with multi-device design
Media/ Domain experience a big plus
3 years of experience in a customer facing role (Professional Services capacity or similar)
Extremely strong interpersonal skills and the ability to fight through politics and over difficult hurdles
