Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center (VBPC) is a 100-bed freestanding
hospital offering acute psychiatric and substance abuse services for
adults 18 years and older, as well as acute psychiatric services for
children ages 3-11 and adolescents, 12-17. The hospital is accessible
24 hours a day for admissions, and includes mental health assessments
and referral network. Treatment programs and specialty services at
VBPC include substance abuse, dual diagnosis / rapid stabilization,
and partial hospitalization.
Virginia Beach Psychiatric
Center currently has a (Assessment Clinician – Full-time and
PRN) positions available. The candidate selected will be responsible
for the following:
Provides telephonic or face-to-face
mental health crisis triage, assessment, intervention and disposition
at Assessment and Referral Centers or “on-site” at
general hospital emergency room, therapist’s or
Answers the telephone crisis
line and obtains all pertinent demographic, clinical, marketing and
third party information to determine the appropriateness of
face-to-face telephonic assessment and clinical disposition of the
caller; seeks supervision when caller requests information/data
unfamiliar to counselor.
Provides clinically appropriate
resolution to those calls evaluated as information only.
Provides clinically appropriate telephonic disposition to those
clients whose calls are evaluated as routine; referring to outpatient
care as appropriate.
Schedules face-to-face clinical
assessments within twenty-four hours if the call is evaluated as
urgent or emergent.
Refers callers not appropriate for
care within the UHS systems matrix to other clinically appropriate
providers and/or community resources.
Hours: 7 am - 3 pm and 3 pm - 11 pm
shifts including weekends and some holidays
The following are the job requirements for the
(Assessment Clinician – Full-time and PRN) position:
Requires Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social
work, or a degree and licensure as a Registered Nurse and one or more
years of direct or related mental health counseling experience;
prefer mental health crisis counseling experience. Must possess
knowledge of current psychiatric diagnosis and treatment terminology;
completing biopsychosocial patient assessments, including conducting
formal mental status evaluation and patient medical history;
community resources; third party payers, including managed care
companies to develop a clinically appropriate crisis intervention and
disposition pan; basic typing and computer literacy.
