PDI has a full-time Route Driver position available. The Route Driver is responsible for operating all company vehicles and equipment in a safe and professional manner to ensure prompt delivery of product to customers. The driver completes paperwork and performs customer service at the store level.
The essential functions of this position are:
Reports to work when scheduled and on time and meets scheduled delivery time as set by customer.
Responsible for adherence to the company or department attendance policy.
Must be able to maintain the physical requirements of the job. (Will review in the interview)
Operates semi-tractor and trailer in a safe and professional manner to scheduled destination. Actively participates in the PDI Transportation Safety Rewards Program.
Responsible for maintaining fleet averages on idle time, fuel MPG, and speed limit requirements.
Utilizes electronic logging device meeting hours of service requirements set by the Department of Transportation and PDI. If electronic logging system fails, must complete paper log.
Performs all customer service duties at the customer location, including product placement, check-in, writing of credits, and return of product and paperwork to PDI.
Responsible for contract shipments and backhauls including but not limited to: verifying product counts, monitoring proper temperature to ensure product integrity, tagging appropriate pallets, notifying dispatch of any changes or discrepancies with overages, shortages, or damaged products, and completes paperwork.
Responsible for completing pre-trip and post-trip inspection sheets, electronic device requirements, and visual general vehicle inspection.
Records reefer unit temperature prior to departure and monitors throughout the trip. Secures trailer with pad-lock before leaving the yard and at each stop throughout the trip.
May be required to fuel truck if necessary.
Communicates with the Transportation Office on estimated time of arrival, wait times at backhaul locations.
Skills and abilities required to perform job:
Excellent customer relations and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to read and write in order to complete all paperwork accurately. Work safely in all aspects of daily requirements in the truck and at the customer location while complying with all DOT regulations.
Exposure to cold temperatures in coolers and reefer unit.
Exposure to all types of weather conditions.
Neat and clean appearance, PDI uniform required.
Minimum experience required to perform job:
1-2 years semi-driving experience required. Customer service and reefer experience preferred.
A Class A CDL license required; DOT certified.
Must be 21 years of age.
A DOT physical, drug screen, and lift test are required
Flexible schedule of hours.
The primary functions being sedentary to heavy lifting required according to the Department of Labor Weight Classifications and sitting for extended periods of time.
This is a semi-skilled position requiring constant manual and motor coordination, walking, lifting, handling, seeing, hearing, carrying, driving, pushing, and pulling.
