Student Media a department within the Memorial Union invites applications for a full-time 1.0 FTE, 12-month, fixed-term Creative Services Coordinator position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.

This position exists to provide, create and maintain an experiential learning and training program that is enriching to students and staff and integrates professional skills, values, ethics and responsibilities; a welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. Provides production leadership and advising of several student media organizations, including The Daily Barometer specifically, and other media as needed.
The Creative Services Coordinator works with the Assistant Director of Student Media on a number of projects, The Daily Barometer, OSU Directory, special projects including marketing and sales campaigns. The Creative Services Coordinator is primarily responsible for making sure that all Barometer ads are produced from 8 to 5 the day prior to publication. The manager is responsible for making sure that all software and hardware are operating and rich media content is managed across platforms and publications.
Operate desk-top publishing for the production of The Daily Barometer and other Student Media and related projects.
A. Compose all advertising and special projects, as needed, to complete normal daytime progress. All ads for the newspaper should be completed as nearly as possible allowing time for corrections and editorial material. All marketing and advertising campaigns must be completed on deadline.
B. Make sure that the following desktop publishing equipment is operational:
1. Mac for the composing room facility including 4 terminals.
2. Newsroom Macintosh system with the help of the IT specialist.
3. Stay abreast of new and other related software and systems as integrated into the publications process.
40% Production and Marketing Education
Learn to operate and teach others to operate new generations of composing equipment as they are added to the system. Faculty, staff and other non-students who assume advisory roles with Student Media must remain aware of their obligation to defend and teach without censoring.
Communicate with and educate student staff, including comprehensive workshops, in composition, mechanical style limitations as well as new style possibilities. Trains students in all areas of electronic pagination techniques including PDF, EPS and file transfer protocols to commercial printers. This position exists to provide, create and maintain an experiential learning and training program that is enriching to students and staff and integrates professional skills, values, ethics and responsibilities.
Work with the student design staff to prepare a set of stylebooks for the use of the various departments, ad sales reps and student media staff. Maintain and train on copyright, logo, branding standards and marketing material standards. Provides production leadership and advising of several student media organizations, including The Daily Barometer specifically, and other media as needed.
Translate style configurations into workable composing room terminology and train personnel for proficiency in the production and maintenance of style systems.
Works with the Student Media Director to coordinate job work for other Student Media and student groups. Actively participates in weekly staff meetings and conducts daily team meeting for production. Cross trains and develops emergency back-up plans for events that would delay publications.
Consult with, and create marketing materials for Student Media department. Work with professional staff to facilitate input of stakeholders in the advertising and marketing plans. Collaborate with all students and partners on specific marketing plans.
10% Supervision - Lead Work
Develop and provide direction, implementation and supervision for a student staff to provide creative products and services, graphics, typesetting, and other production work modeling a mini-advertising agency to help student organizations/departments publicize and promote events. Must recruit, train, plan, assign and review creative design work. Sets performance goals and evaluates performance.
Work with the Newspaper Night/Shift Production Coordinator to coordinate the schedules and work loads of student staff for composing.

Work with the Director of Student Media and the Assistant Director of Student Media for Advertising and Marketing to develop bids, evaluate new equipment, and propose new systems and software for technological upgrading.
Build a coordinated program of thorough equipment maintenance to facilitate minimum downtime.
Maintain an adequate stock of supplies necessary for daily production work.
Establish procedures for general and specific information dispersal about composition for the practical educational information of university students and staff.
Working Conditions/Work Schedule:
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Arts, Marketing, or Journalism, or equivalent in newspaper creative design and production experience.
Knowledge of Macintosh computers and software for production including PageMaker, InDesign, Ad Creator, Illustrator, Photoshop and related publishing software.
Minimum one year of practical experience in advertising sales and/or ad sales management background of a professional newspaper and/or daily college newspaper.
Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of advertising sales, marketing, public relations, promotion, digital and online media.
Evidence of ability to work with students in a supportive, positive, constructive, and mentoring atmosphere.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Master's degree in related field.
Knowledge and experience on current software updates and new content management systems, including possessing or obtaining any specialized instruction or certificates necessary.
Demonstrated understanding of, appreciation for and experience in editorial department(s) of student media.
Understanding of managing income and expense budgets.
