Reporting to the company’s Sr. Director of Operations, the Linux Systems Engineer is responsible for architecting and implementing infrastructure solutions. Will focus on Linux server and client technologies. Involved in the administration of server systems through the entire configuration management life cycle from initial build through decommissioning.
Will work and coordinate with IT Operations to developed highly redundant and scalable infrastructure solutions, leveraging best practices, in a cost effective way.
Functions as a hands-on Systems Engineer responsible for coordinating the implementation, configuration, and administration of a large-scale hybrid environment consisting of software and hardware including vendors such as Microsoft, CentOS, Red Hat, 3Par, H/P and Cisco.
Maintain support for a Linux server infrastructure in a data center environment.
Maintain support for an emerging data management platform using Hadoop, Cloudera, and CentOS.
Resolve software related problems and technical issues involving servers and systems.
Identify and recommend emerging technology trends and develop alternatives with respect to hardware and software architecture. Conduct capacity planning studies for server alternatives and make recommendations.
Evaluate, update, maintain and apply patches for all servers. Implement server requirements for new applications.
Analyzes functional business requirements and design specifications for functional activities. Provide strategic direction for systems configuration and interoperability.
Design or implement plans developed by senior team members that include but are not limited to: optimization or implementation of client/server platforms, storage, backup or configuration management solutions.
Responsible for establishing the configuration management environment, policy and procedure guidelines, reporting and audits, product scope change control, version control, and product component integration.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Technology: Must have at least (8) years of experience as a Systems Engineer in programs that encompass system architecture, interface development, requirements analysis, process execution and evaluation. Conceptual understanding of Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Cluster Server, Active Directory, DNS, TCP/IP, and storage area networks. Experience supporting and managing the installation and maintenance of ESX VMWare, CentOS, RAID, and clustering technologies.
- Architecture: Proven success architecting highly-scalable and robust client/server solutions. Expert understanding of network and architectural design approaches for creating efficient and redundant infrastructure designs.
- Creative. Able to think "out of the box" about new ways to design, build, and operate technology solutions.
