The Idaho State Journal is looking for a full-time courts, cops and emergency services reporter who will write stories for our print and online editions. The Journal covers an eight county area in Southeast Idaho that has plenty of spot news and court action. This is a very exciting beat to cover at this newspaper. The position might include some editorial and column writing duties, depending on the expertise of the candidate.

Photo/video experience would also be helpful for this position, but it's not required. The Journal is a 20,000 circulation daily in Pocatello, a city of about 50,000 people that has been nationally recognized for its outdoor offerings (biking, hiking, skiing), high quality of life and low cost of living. The Journal's staff has won dozens of awards in recent years and reporters are encouraged to enter any and all contests. The nature of the cops, courts and emergency services beat is such that we'd like to hire a reporter with some experience.

We would consider candidates fresh from college if they have experience covering this or a similar beat for a college newspaper or weekly. Please send cover letter, resume and clips to Editor Ian H. Fennell, 305 S. Arthur, Pocatello, ID 83204 or editor@journalnet.com.
