Blackbird Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Junior Linux Systems Administrator to support corporate programs in Herndon, VA. The ideal candidate will have professional experience supporting numerous Linux Server environments. The ability to provide exceptional communication, both written and oral, is a must.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Administer local and remote Linux servers
  • Develop and maintain highly available services including Linux clustering and redundant web services
  • Develop and maintain detailed backup and recovery strategies for multiple systems including databases and file servers
  • Develop and maintain a monitoring system to provide accurate, up-to-minute insight of systems status
  • Troubleshoot end user issues and system issues on a routine basis
  • Track and maintain systems in inventory
  • Proficient in full lifecycle management process
  • Perform system analysis to evaluate security levels, system utilization and growth projections
  • Research, stage and implement new patches, rollouts and upgrades for various applications and hardware to maximize integrity and efficiency of the system
  • Oversight of team responsibilities including daily tasks assignment and project management
  • Plan, schedule, estimate, and create project proposals while managing internal resources to ensure project success

Required Skills/Education:
  • US Citizenship
  • Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
  • 1-2 years of professional, educational or hands-on training experience in Linux systems administration
  • Must have the flexibility and willingness to respond to off-hour technical support rotation
  • Must have experience working with the following:
o Server hardware
o Linux
o Storage
o Networking (strong understanding of TCP/IP)
o Apache or similar HTTP server
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language: Perl, Shell, Python
  • Must possess the ability to function in an environment with non-traditional implementations of standard COTS applications and hardware
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to effectively interact and communicate with management, customers, and employees
  • Strong skills in IT fundamentals including, but not limited to: server administration, networking, database support/administration, scripting, infrastructure support
  • Experience defining and developing requirements for technical projects
  • Must present a positive, professional attitude and demeanor
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Desired Skills/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an IT-related field
  • Previous experience working with highly-available services
  • Familiarity with SQL, Oracle RAC
  • Familiarity with Java, C, and other programming languages
  • Nagios
