The Volunteer Attorney Law Clerk

will perform various duties for the Intake Section of the Appeals and Postconviction Division of the Office of the Ohio Public Defender. The Attorney Law Clerk will conduct legal research and analyses, assist in the initial evaluation of claims, write memoranda in response to attorney questions, update client information materials, and may draft pleadings for various state and federal court proceedings at the appellate and postconviction levels. In addition, the Attorney Law Clerk may be asked to complete transcripts, record reviews, and correspond with inmates or their families.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be considered, a candidate must have a law degree. Licensure is preferred. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in criminal law and should have graduated in the top third of his or her class. Law review experience is preferred but is not required. Minimum time committment required for this position is 20 hours per week. Candidates should have daytime availability.
