Asphalt Technical Manager-007640DescriptionWe are seeking an Asphalt Technical Manager with demonstrated leadership skills and experience in the asphalt products industry (asphalt binders and emulsions, including polymer modified binders and emulsions) to join our team at the Pine Bend refinery in Rosemount, MN (Twin Cities metro). As the Asphalt Technical Manager, you will supervise a support team of Technical Representatives and the Asphalt Lab Manager. This team is responsible for technical support of a network of eleven (11) asphalt plants/terminals in the upper midwest including raw material selection, asphalt product processing instructions, product formulations and troubleshooting to ensure consistent product quality and compliance with Quality Control plans approved by various State DOT agencies. This role also benchmarks best practices in the industry relative to raw material selection and use, processing equipment selection and new products in the industry that add value to the business.
As such, you will represent the FHR Asphalt business internally as the Asphalt Technical leader with the Asphalt Marketing group, the Asphalt Plant Managers, various operations and laboratory personnel and various FHR corporate leaders. Externally, you will represent the FHR Asphalt business with State DOT agency representatives, various FHR contractor/customers, and various industry association groups (such as the Asphalt Institute) to maintain or develop relationships that add value to the business.A successful candidate will get good results in key metrics related to product quality (quality "incidents" and the associated level of impact), compliance (product certification to meet various state's sampling, testing and specification requirements), environmental, health and safety (environmental or injury incidents and near misses), personnel development and the profitable application of innovation within the business. Travel is required, as necessary, to support the network of asphalt plants and attend company and industry association meetings. In addition, this role is required to carry a cell phone/blackberry device and respond promptly whenever needed.Work Experience & Skills Required5+ years of proven experience and results in a technical support role in the asphalt products industry (raw material selection, processing procedures, product formulations, troubleshooting specification issues, etc.) Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated strong work ethic with integrity and a commitment to compliance Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook applications A valid driver's licenseWork Experience & Skills PreferredSupervision of similar asphalt product technical support roles Established relationships with key industry associations and key personnel in the asphalt industryEducation RequiredHigh school diploma or equivalentEducation PreferredBachelors degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar technical or science related disciplinesThis role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.This role is subject to the Transportation Workers Identification Credentialing rule or "TWIC" and requires the successful candidate to obtain a TWIC identification badge, allowing for unescorted access to the facility within a specific time period.This employer uses E-Verify.
