In this challenging role you will be a part of our Generation Engineering Department and you will work on mid-large scale electrical project work related to our power plants. The job features a combination of office based work and plant work. We are seeking an experienced professional with an Electrical Engineering degree, strong project management skills and experience with power systems and equipment such as generators, exciters, transformers, relays, switchgear, cable, low voltage circuit breakers and trip units; motor control centers, electro-static precipitators.

Supervision Received: Performs work under the direction of a Team Lead or Manager.

Supervision Given: None

Engineering project management including budget development and economic evaluation.
Maintain an awareness of customer needs and expectations and proposes solutions.

Proactively involved in the identification and solution of problems falling within assigned area of responsibility with minimal guidance.

Go beyond generally accepted guidelines to analyze problems and recommend possible solutions. Assist in solving moderately complex problems by identifying new ways of using existing procedures, techniques and resources.

Make medium risk decisions that involve direct application of technical knowledge with proper sign off from customer and minimal guidance form supervisor.

Identify areas of opportunity within the scope of assigned area of responsibility which will improve performance; proactively identify and propose, operational guidelines, standards, training, strategic plans, etc., that will help the customer sustain identified improvements.
Proactively provide guidance to less experienced staff members; has established effective working relationships with employees, contractors, BU customers, functional groups, and internal and external peers; is effective in dealing with the director level employees within the company.
Develop an awareness of customer needs and expectations and propose solutions for moderately complex issues.

Participates in the identification and solution of problems falling within assigned area of responsibility with guidance from supervisor.

Demonstrate the development of critical thinking skills necessary to develop recommendations which provide technically sound and most cost effective solutions applied to a specific problem.
Responsible for study, design, specification and services related to electrical and electronic systems including power generation, transmission and distribution, power systems performance and control, cabling and wiring, lighting, motor control centers, communications systems, cathodic protection, grounding lightning protection, heat tracing etc. Under general supervision, performs all conventional aspects of the functional area subject matter.

Devises new approaches to problems encountered.

Plans, schedules, and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.

Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

Job Qualifications
Education or experience equivalent to a four year degree from an accredited college or university, with emphasis in engineering; Electrical Engineering degree preferred.

A minimum of five to eight years technical and/or professional experience.

Strong knowledge of electric and steam generation industry, power plant operations and electrical power systems and equipment such as generators, exciters, transformers, relays, switchgear, cable, low voltage circuit breakers and trip units; motor control centers, electro-static precipitators, etc.

Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, quality control, and start-up and testing of key power distribution equipment within a generating facility.

System protection experience and arc flash analysis experience is also desired.

As many of the project tie into the plant control systems, experience with control systems is also preferred.

Engineering project management including budget development, economic evaluations, development of equipment / construction specifications, construction management, system start-up / commissioning, schedule development / management is required. Execution of multiple projects at the same time is also required.

Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management) preferred.

Ability to work in a diverse work environment.

Must possess a valid driver's license.
