The preferred candidate will plan, develop, and manage the Bowling Green product engineering team; one of five teams in the Global Engineering Enterprise. The team has engineering resources for product development, sustaining engineering, lab services, and project management required to meet the objectives and initiatives of the Global Hardfacing and High Alloy (HFA) product line. Product engineering, product life management (PLM), product data management (PDM), and project management experience is required to support a global sourcing, manufacturing, and distribution enterprise. Application of the above management and leadership processes in the welding products or industrial products industries is preferred.
Responsibilities:
Manages all product engineering activities at the Bowling Green facility
Manages engineering team budget and overhead expenses
Responsible for developing the technical skills of the team, and fitness for purpose robustness of products developed for the Hardfacing and High Alloy (HFA) product lines.,
Ability to interact with sales and marketing and direct product development projects to meet their requirements
Ability to interact with end-users and determine product strategies required to meet their needs
Evaluates master schedule, project mix and resource capacity to develop a fast-flexible project engineering capability optimizing the project results to meet business plan objectives,
Leads the development of lab technology, engineering skills, and capital resources required to develop new products and technology for the HFA product line,
Active involvement in AWS technical committees
Supports operations activities in production, quality and TCP
Initiates and delegates research, development and/or sourcing of new or existing products per the annual business plan
Directly interfaces to engineering customers (Brand Directors, Brand Managers, Operations)
Reports key performance metrics (KPM’s) to VP, GM
Authority:
Administers department management initiatives
Delegates project assignments and authority to engineers and program managers
Manages and approves overhead and travel expense budgets
Required Skills
Knowledge of quality systems required to support a global enterprise
Leadership and human resources skills
Excellent knowledge of computer software for business applications
Excellent communication skills
Required Experience
Master Degree or Bachelor Degree in Materials/Welding Engineering plus five to ten years of related experience
Technical expertise in the Welding Metallurgy, expertise in welding consumable development will be a plus
Four years of managerial experience (preferred)
Project management training and/or experience
