CNBC Digital is expanding its newsroom to keep pace with the explosive growth it has seen since it launched in 2006 and to position it for continued growth across all its platforms.
The Deputy Managing Editor, Enterprise will lead a newly created desk of editors, producers and reporters, and will be responsible for all of our enterprise reporting and planning, and commissioning of outside blog and opinion pieces.
Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Deputy Managing Editor, Enterprise will manage a team of beat editors and reporters, ensuring each stays abreast of breaking news developments on their beats, that they’re competitive in delivering scoops, analysis and smartly conceived trend stories, and that they are focused on offering compelling, highly shareable journalism.
Specifically, the Deputy Managing Editor, Enterprise will be responsible for:
Overseeing a team of digital beat editors, and ensuring they are focused on generating and assigning story ideas, and editing stories to the highest levels of journalistic quality
Working with TV beat reporters and anchors to grow their digital presence
Managing relationships with external partners like Yahoo! Finance and digital properties in the NBC Universal family
Maintaining the news calendar and liaising with relevant departments to plan coverage of future events
Managing section fronts, keeping them updated and on point
Liaising with our digital video producers and strategic content editors
Curating and commissioning opinion pieces
Working closely with photo and graphics desks
Working in real time coordination with our breaking news desk
Assistant editors will support beat editors and produce copy as required
The Enterprise position will require the successful candidate to exhibit demonstrated leadership, strong editing skills and to have a deep background in business and/or digital journalism. It will involve managing CNBC Digital’s relationships with CNBC TV senior editors, executive producers and on-air talent, as well as managing relationships with partners like Yahoo! Finance, NBCnews.com, Xfinity.com and Today.com.
The position requires at least seven years’ editing experience for a major business news outlet with at least three years’ of that experience in the Internet arena, plus a demonstrated track record of leadership and journalistic achievement. Familiarity with TV news operations a plus. Must be technically proficient and have knowledge of basic software systems and newsroom operations.
This position requires somebody of strong organizational skills who can juggle multiple tasks at once, prioritize tasks and stories, and work within a matrixed, fast-paced environment to deliver results. He or she will be an active participant on the social web, tapping into social platforms to help understand what stories will interest our audience and drive engagement.
