SOUTH CAROLINA AIR NATIONAL GUARD

National Guard Membership is Required : This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the South Carolina Air National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

DUTIES:
This position is located in the Operations Flight of a base Communications Squadron. The purpose of this position is to serve as a customer support technician performing work involving analytical and evaluative duties related to computer networks (NIPRNET/SIPRNET) and/or telecommunications system with primary knowledge requirements of information processing methodology, information technology, telecommunications systems, computer capabilities, processing techniques, and data communications. The incumbent specializes in one or more of the major information technology (IT) and/or communications systems managed and maintained by the Squadron - network infrastructure, wireless systems, and voice systems. The network infrastructure systems include: local/wide area networks (LAN/WAN), intrusion detection systems, closed circuit television, network switches, routers, information transfer nodes (ITN), and data terminal equipment. The wireless systems include: trunked UHF/VHF/HF systems, regulated and unregulated radio and wireless network systems, personal wireless communications systems (PWCS), wireless teleconferencing, and wireless LANs. The voice systems include: plain old telephone systems (POTS), networked voice, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), voice mail systems, unified communications network systems, and Video Tele-Conferencing (VTC) networks.

To ensure full coverage for all systems supported, each incumbent is expected to maintain a high level of proficiency for all systems supported by the Communications Squadron. While each incumbent may specialize in one system category, to ensure full coverage during workload fluctuations as well as employee absences, each incumbent will cross-train to support all IT and communications systems. Throughout the year, each incumbent will perform customer support work for all three IT/communication system categories.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Minimum Requirement: Experience, education, or training that has provided a basic kowledge data processing functions and general managment principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems.

Meeting the months of experience requirement will not by itself be accepted as proof of qualification. Quality, type, and scope of experience, training or education must be demonstrated to show that the applicant is fully qualified to perform duties at the grade level announced.

Specialized Experience: You MUST have 36 months experience in EACH of the following KSAs:

1. Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and LAN/WAN problems to include switches, computers, laptops, individual user account issues and application problems. Experience in utilizing hardware and software to pinpoint the source of problems and initiate corrective action.

2. Experience which demonstrates the ability to respond to customer requests for assistance, ensuring trouble reports are handled expeditiously and are tracked to build a knowledge base for future problem.

3. Experience in developing, documenting and testing procedures to assist users and network technicians in installing, implementing, integrating and maintaining networked systems.

4. Experience in analyzing, recommending, organizing and implementing procedures for the operation of sofware and configuration managment procedures on customer work stations.

5. Experience which demonstrates the ability to utilize a variety of different system platforms, operating systems and applications to administer customer accounts.

Substitution of Specialized Experience: At the GS-11 level, a Ph. D. or equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Employees selected for full-time positions that require mandatory training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) will have 12 months from the date of hire to complete the required course(s). Failure to complete NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC for new personnel within the first year of employment may be cause for reassignment or termination.

Enlisted Cash Bonuses: Acceptance of a technician position may affect any bonus and/or educational assistance that may be applicable. Your bonus may be terminated and repayment may be required.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) cost is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the interst of the Government.

For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they love or are principally employed.
