for Academic & Student Affairs, UNC General Administration (UNC System Office), Chapel Hill, NC. The Assistant Vice President is instrumental in the day-to-day operations of the division and serves as the manager of the division in the absence of the Senior Associate Vice President.
This position will provide the successful candidate with an exciting opportunity to shape the future direction of programs designed to increase access, outreach, and retention throughout North Carolina, and to provide leadership for special projects that represent innovative collaborations among constituent institutions, the North Carolina Community College System, the independent colleges and universities in North Carolina, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, and with other constituencies.
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The University of North Carolina comprises 16 public constituent institutions, as well as one constituent high school, and is one of the leading university systems in the nation. The UNC Division of Academic Affairs coordinates the universities' academic proposals, is responsible for the oversight of research and sponsored programs, and provides guidance and assistance for student services and academic activities. The Assistant Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs reports directly to the Senior Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.

EPA Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of a Master's degree with at least five years of proven progressive administrative experience in Academic Affairs and Student Affairs in a university setting; doctorate preferred.
A demonstrated record of effective leadership in increasingly responsible positions in higher education, including supervision of, and coordination with, other professionals.
Ability to work in a self-directed manner and manage multiple projects
Working knowledge of major functional areas related to access and outreach, e.g., student recruitment and retention, enrollment management, financial aid, curriculum issues, technology in education, acquisition of federal and state grants in support of access and outreach, and articulation with community colleges.
Strategic thinking and analytical problem-solving abilities.
An understanding of higher education and the academic environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
A demonstrated commitment to diversity and the ability to work with diverse constituencies.
A leadership style that emphasizes collaboration and facilitation.
Ability to prepare informational materials for students, public schools, and the general public about UNC educational opportunities.
