Job Title: Cluster Substitute Teacher
Boston Public Schools (BPS) seeks Cluster Substitute Teachers to play a very important role in educating our children. BPS is looking for committed professionals to contribute to our focus on children by substituting in our schools. Successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the vision of "Focus on Children." S/he must possess an educational philosophy that embraces the community vision for a rigorous academic program and champions the belief that all children can learn at high levels.
Reports to: Principal/Headmaster of the school.
1.Per Diem Substitute Teachers: Teachers that work day-to-day assignments to fill positions on an interim basis.
2.Long term Substitute Teachers are:
a)Those teachers who are assigned to fill a position anticipated to be vacant for more than 20 consecutive workdays but less than a full school year or
b)Those teachers actually serving continuously for more than 20 consecutive workdays in the same assignment.
A long-term substitute teacher will receive a higher rate of pay after 10 consecutive workdays and again after 25 consecutive workdays.
3.Cluster Substitute Teachers: Those teachers who are assigned to a school for a full year to rotate into the various absent positions in the school, as needed, on a daily basis. The Cluster Substitute is paid at a higher rate than per diem substitutes.

III.Safe, Respectful, and Culturally Sensitive and Responsive Learning Communities: Build and maintain safe, fair, and respectful learning environments that celebrate the diversity of the student population.
IV.Instructional Planning and Implementation:
Employ strategies that address the wide range of learning, behavioral, and communication styles of the student population.
Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use effective and culturally relevant instructional practices.
V.Content Knowledge: Have extensive knowledge of the content including, but not limited to, key concepts and facts, relevant research, methods of inquiry, and communication styles specific to the respective discipline(s).
1.Education: Minimum of an undergraduate college/university degree.
2.Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
3.Completion the Boston Substitute Teacher Training Program (please go to our website for more information). This requirement can be waived for those individuals with proven classroom teaching or a Massachusetts Teaching License
4.Pass the Utah Substitute Teaching Institutes online SubAssessment with a passing score of 85 or greater
5.Successfully complete a screening interview with the BPS Office of Human Resources
1.Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License
2.Experience in a school or community setting working with children or young adults.
3.Experience teaching in urban schools.
