The Department of Parks and Recreation offers over 7 full day camp programs, for ages 6-14, at various sites to include indoor as well as outdoor adventure. Our programs serve a broad base of families. We are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our camp team. Camp Counselors should have experience working with children in structured settings/programs and demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm and caring for the program and its participants. Camp Counselors will be responsible for the daily supervision, daily activity planning, safety, and group management. Camp Counselors must be able to work within a team setting to accomplish program goals. Must be at least 18 years old. Parks and Recreation camp programs generally are offered Monday- Friday from 9a-5p, however due to our extended care program, there may be times when working flexible schedule is necessary. It is important to note that employee hours are based upon camp enrollments and cannot be guaranteed. |

General Definition of Work, Typical tasks, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Implements activities and supervises children in a day camp.
Actively participates with children;
Maintains appropriate paperwork;
Assists in the planning and implementation of age appropriate activities for children;
Supervises campers and maintains emotionally and physically safe environments;
Assists with the preparation of the facility for operations;
Monitors all activities and informs supervisor of concerns or issues;
Communicates with parents and staff regarding child’s progress;
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge in age appropriate programming; ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior techniques; ability to effectively communicate, plan and conduct activities; demonstrated communication and customer service skills.
Education and Experience:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or G.E.D; and be at least eighteen (18) years of age or older with at least six (6) months of age-appropriate experience in a group setting. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls;
Must have physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine;
Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and repetitive motions; Ability to lift 50 pounds;
Must have Community CPR/AED and First Aid Certificates;
Must have Blood Borne Pathogen Training;
Must have TB test;
Must pass Criminal Background Check, Sworn Disclosure, Confidentiality Statement and Central Registry documents.
