JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: FIELD TEST ENGINEER –WASTE WATER PLANTS
Job Grade: 49
Reports To: MANAGER PROCESS TECHNOLOGY
Department: PROCESS TECHNOLOGY

Position Summary:
Position requires extensive Mon-Fri travel throughout the US at company expense. Work in Field approximately 40 weeks per year and local Lab 12 weeks per year. Home most weekends and holidays.

Responsible for conducting field tests with mobile and skid mounted demonstration and pilot units, and issuing a test report to the customer in conjunction with the Sales Department. Must be able to present both the equipment and the Company professionally to the customer. Additionally, the Test Engineer will participate in start-up of new machines and performance optimization of installed equipment.

Major Duties:
Coordinates arrangement of demo test with customer, representative, and/or Sales Department to include laboratory testing and provision of proper facilities to conduct test.
Conduct actual on-site testing.
Write test reports for each field test i n conjunction with Sales Department which incorporates all results from customer’s laboratory, a complete plant and process description, and a summary of predicted performance. Must also record specific problems encountered and internal test data,which should not be included in customer’s test data, or customer’s test report.
Must maintain current product knowledge to be able to present company and equipment in a
professional manner to customer. While at job site, should seek to determine personnel with
most influence on project.
Provide feedback to Engineering and Sales De partment on machine design and layout for
specific projects.
Test new equipment or machine modifications for further development of our technology.
Provide assistance to start-up crew, and participate in start-ups as required.
Troubleshoot installed equipment, participate in performance tests for new equipment as
required.
Evaluate performance of auxiliary equipment and its impact on company product.
Gather competitive information as available and distribute to both Process and Sales
Departments.
Keep personal records, equipment inventory and internal Process Department files in orderly
manner.
Review all demo test reports with respect to projected performance, problems encountered and internal test data.
Coordinate repair work to be done on the test equipment through the shop foreman and the
Electrical Department Manager.
Attend all in-house and job-site related meetings.
Outline and enforce maintenance and safety procedures both on the test units and trailers.
Requisition equipment and personnel necessary to maintain mobile test units in good working
condition. Maintain inventory of spare parts, polymers, belts and other equipment on trailers and
in warehouse.
Assist with preparation of annual budgets for operation of field test units and is responsible for
adherence to this budget.
Coordinate and is responsible for timely transportation of demo equipment.
Clean and maintain all equipment on test skids and trailers.

Basic Skills:
  • Engineering Degree: Environmental, Chemical, Process, Mech a nical or related field.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Practical experience operating industrial equipment.
  • Ability to get along with people.
  • Knowledge about Company/product – able to present himself and Company well.
  • Able to conduct laboratory tests and sample analysis – develop knowledge about
polymers/belts.
Basic computer skills (Excel, MS-Word, PowerPoint, Windows)

Relationships:
Reports to Manager Process Technology Department and apprises him of his day to day activity.
Coordinates customer contact through Sales Department and/or representative. This includes actual test and test report. Also informs Sales Department of developments in field that may impact project.
Interfaces with Process Engineers, Test Technicians and laboratory personnel as necessary for the fulfillment of major duties.
Relates to Engineering any layout, design, or machine modifications that technician feels would be beneficial to equipment development.
