Job Posting Summary
At this time the position is open to applicants internal to UA only. This position is a key manager in the fast-paced Office of Admissions and Registrar supervising the Admissions staff and responsible for processing student applications for admission. The position requires supervisory skills, ability to multi-task, ability to identify and implement process improvements, strong computer and technology skills, strong interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.
Knowledge of Banner or other relational databases and computer operations. Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, processes, policies, and procedures related to higher education. Ability to lead or supervise a work team. Ability to research and solve complex problems. Demonstrated skill in office procedures, business correspondence and data management. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work and lead in a team environment.
Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses).
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and two years progressively responsible relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
Length of time and type of experience required for this position.
Minimum two years' experience working as a supervisor or team leader.
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities for this position.
Experience working with Banner, EMAS or other student information system. Leadership experience. Knowledge of UAF policies, procedures, and programs. Prior experience working in an admissions, student recruiting or student records environment preferred.

DEPARTMENTAL RESOURCE & PROBLEM-SOLVING: Act as "Admissions Processing" expert resource for specific questions & problems for academic departments, International Student Services, Graduate School, and Registrar. Research complex problems, analyze facts, and work to identify best course of action. Bring systemic or procedural problems to the attention of Assistant Registrar.
PLANNING: Represent UAF on Statewide Admissions Workteam, Non-Resident Alien Workteam, and other teams as assigned to assist in short- and long-term planning. Work with Assistant Registrar and Admissions Specialists to identify significant issues in "file reviewing" and other areas, and brainstorm possible solutions. Work with Assistant Registrar and Communications Coordinator to assess and plan for short-term and longer-term needs of the department.
MANAGEMENT: Work with the Assistant Registrar, Registrar, and Director of Recruitment to implement the goals of the Department and the Division. Coordinate the flow of applications for admission; assign tasks as needed to optimize performance of the admissions clerks and specialists; plan and coordinate semesterly/annual and ad hoc projects; communicate policy and procedure decisions to staff. Work with the Assistant Registrar and Registrar to develop new strategies to streamline admissions processes and improve efficiency. Enforce adherence to admission requirements, residency policies, other University policies, procedures and regulations. Interpret policies and make exceptions as necessary; elevate when appropriate.
SUPERVISION: Oversee the application processing unit for the Office of Admissions & the Registrar. Supervise Admissions Clerks (3), Admissions Specialists (2), and Admisssions Student Workers (1-2). Maintain high quality of work and timely data processing of applications for admission from point of receipt to the point of enrollment. Supervision is to include hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. Guide and manage staff to provide the best student service possible. Ensure adherence to FERPA regulations and confidentiality procedures. Update and revise procedures manual.
COMPUTER/TECHNICAL: Run weekly and ad hoc standardized reports for use by Directors, Deans, and academic units. Provide reports to individuals within Admissions and other departments as requested. Work with Assistant Registrar in management of UAF Banner data, web applications, OnBase document imaging system, and other applications.
AS NEEDED: Backup for Admissions Specialists as needed in reviewing files. Assist in making determinations of applicant residency status.
