Position: Lead Transportation Security Officer
Location: Kansas City International Airport

Raytheon Company is recruiting candidates for the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) Screening Partnership Program (SPP) contract at Kansas City International Airport. SPP offers a public-private partnership that combines private sector hiring of airport security screeners with Government oversight of performance. The incumbent's contract is set to expire by the end of the year, and Raytheon will be competing to take over the contract.

In compliance with TSA's standard operating procedures (SOP), Lead Transportation Security Officers (LTSO) provide security and protection of air travelers, airports, and aircraft in a courteous and professional manner. This includes:

Operating screening equipment to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers, and preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft;

Performing searches, including bag checks and pat-downs;

Controlling terminal entry and exit points;

Interacting with the public, giving directions, and responding to inquiries;

Maintaining focus and awareness while working in a stressful environment, which includes noise from alarms, machinery and people, crowd distractions, time pressure, and disruptive passengers, in order to preserve the ability to identify life threatening devices and to make effective decisions in both routine and crisis situations. As an LTSO, you will also:

Monitor the flow of passengers through the checkpoint to facilitate the orderly and efficient processing of passengers

Be called on to resolve security issues at the checkpoints and baggage ETC

File detailed and fact based incident reports

Assist and coach less experienced TSOs in the performance of their work

Provide assistance to Supervisory TSOs (STSO)

Act as an STSO when required/requested

Take on other collateral duties as necessary and assigned

Assist in the development of all TSOs to reach optimum performance standards Work schedules will be determined by the airport operational needs. Work schedules allow for both full-time and part-time positions. Whether you work full-time or part-time, you may be asked to work changing shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.

Required Qualifications / Job Requirements

U.S. citizen or U.S. national

Be at least 18 years of age at time of application

High school diploma, GED or equivalent or at least one year of full-time work experience in security work, aviation screener work, or x-ray technician work

English language proficiency (i.e., able to read, write, speak, and listen in the English language);

Demonstrated subject matter expertise in SOP and history of strict compliance with TSA standard operating procedures for passenger checkpoint, checked baggage, and screening management as evaluated through test scores and performance audits (e.g., PSE and IMA)

Leadership ability to make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations

Desire and ability to coach Basic TSOs

Writing ability using Microsoft Word with proper format and grammar

Continuously and effectively interact with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries

Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., customer service, dependability)

Positive work values (e.g., responsibility, honesty, integrity)

Adequate mental abilities to meet the SOP requirements (e.g., visual observation and identification, mental rotation)

Adequate physical abilities to meet the SOP requirements:
Distant vision correctable to 20/30 or better in the best eye and 20/100 or better in the worse eye

Near vision correctable to 20/40 or better binocular

Color perception (e.g., red, green, blue, yellow, orange, purple, brown, black, white, gray); note that color filters (e.g., for contact lenses) for enhancing color discrimination are prohibited

Hearing as measured by an audiometric meter cannot exceed: a) an average hearing loss of 30 decibels (ANSI) at 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000Hz in each ear, b) single readings of 50 decibels at 2000 or 3000 Hz in each ear, c) single reading of 55 decibels at 4000 Hz in each ear

Adequate joint mobility, dexterity and range of motion, strength, and stability (to lift and move at least 50 pounds), as well as a complete medical evaluation including cardiovascular system, hypertension, etc.

The job requirements include the ability to:
Strictly follow TSA standard operating procedures

Make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations

Continuously and effectively interact with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries

Maintain focus and awareness within an environment containing numerous distractions, people, and noise

Stand and remain standing for periods up to 3 hours without sitting To be considered for employment, you must be able to:

Pass a drug screening and medical evaluation

Pass a background investigation, including a criminal check and a credit check

Have no default on $7,500 or more in delinquent debt (but for some bankruptices)

Have no delinquent Federal or State taxes or past due child support payments. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing basic screener training and OJT requirements. Continued employment is contingent upon passing recertification exams on a periodic basis.

Successful applicants will be required to be photographed and fingerprinted and must pass the background investigation requirements to obtain a Transportation Security Administration clearance.
